Magnetic Field Demo: Solenoid

Показать описание
This is a demonstration of the magnetic fields produced by a solenoid, visualized by iron filings.

This demonstration was created at Utah State University by Professor Boyd F. Edwards, assisted by James Coburn (demonstration specialist), David Evans (videography), and Rebecca Whitney (closed captions), with support from Jan Sojka, Physics Department Head, and Robert Wagner, Executive Vice Provost and Dean of Academic and Instructional Services.

Thank you for sharing your device. Suggestions: 1 try to sprinkle the iron filings from top. The higher the better. This will let the iron filings have more time to deflect its path and more likely land on right spots.

2. After turn on the power supply, give a few taps on the acrylic sheet. It will also help the iron filings overcome friction and create field lines.

3. You probably need to go to some hardware store to buy some heavy duty wires and add banana plugs and alligator clips yourself. The standard laboratory electric wire is too thin to carry high current without burning.

Just my two cents.

Why is it parallel inside if the one turn of the solenoid is almost like a circular coil which produces a magnetic field line in a concentric circles

Are the wires coated with insulating material or no?
