I will second anyone who had an "aha" moment here. I have learned the G major scale in the 5 positions, and I know diatonic triad shapes, but for some reason I am a bonehead and never thought to do this. This is life-changing for me. Sorry for all the advanced guitarists out there, I am just a hobbyist having fun. This is definitely level-stepper type lesson, thanks so much. So I guess another way to think of this, but it may be too complicated when actually soloing on the fly, but you are clearly playing G Ionian, then if you move up to the 4 chord, using your intervalic melody, you are playing in C Lydian (with the sharp 4). Thanks for helping make these connections for me. Now I know why I learned the G major scale in all the positions!

I really appreciate the explanation. I’ve been playing for a long time and always have just learned things but never the reason behind them. I’m making a real effort to understand the guitar and your channel is a big help

Brilliant lesson. I particularly like your point about 'discovering' stuff that you're never going to find in a chord chart.

I thought this lesson was great. Information I can put to use immediately as I work on playing up the fret board on music for my church’s worship service. I really like your teaching approach. Little hype or unnecessary noise, just information that I find to be right sized for a single lesson I can use to explore the fretboard for weeks. You have my favorite guitar lessons on the internet.

Hey, Chris! That's cool! Just what i was looking for.
I'm always impressed how, when I'm looking for a new way to see my guitar, something serendipitous happens like i run across this video!
Somebody's looking over my shoulder...!
Thanks for that lesson, by the way! And, for the eye-opening new way to warm up.

Jumped over to your channel from Marty's channel where you did the circle of fifths lesson/demo. I have been playing for 45 years and have been bogged down in the across-the-fretboard scales, patterns and chords, mostly relying on muscle memory. After just 60 minutes here, you are quickly helping me to understand fretboard relationships up and down the fretboard. Thank you, Chris!
