In days of yore, from Britain's shore,
Wolfe, the dauntless hero, came
And planted firm Britannia's flag
On Canada's fair domain.
Here may it wave, our boast, our pride
And, joined in love together,
The thistle, shamrock, rose entwine
The Maple Leaf forever!

The transition is probably the best part for me.

Canada's older and better National Anthem.

I find it interesting that when Canada gained its independence, it chose to discard its old national anthem instead of simply replacing the lyrics. As a nation created by Britain, it would make sense for Canada to embrace this aspect of their history rather than try to hide it. I wonder why they made this decision and if perhaps there were other factors at play. Regardless, it's an intriguing topic to ponder.

Okay, some corrections. The Maple Leaf Forever was never the anthem of the country of Canada or any of the precursor provinces. Also, due to Language still used in the BNA act which forms part of the constitution, Canada is still technically and formally the Dominion of Canada. And let's be honest, even though the music is a half decent British-style march, the lyrics are quite poor
