Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy hates The Orville?

Peter Griffin shoots the TV when the announcer says The Orville will come on. Chris asks why Peter hates that show. Peter replies because it prevents him (Seth MacFarlane) from doing his job in creating Family Guy episodes. I suppose the obligations towards FG don't allow him to spend more time on The Orville?

Personally I wish Seth MacFarlane would care more for The Orville than Family Guy, as latter got quite boring in recent seasons while The Orville, or at least the first season we have seen so far, rocks in my opinion!

I say the quality of Family Guy decreased over the past years while the new season of The Orville is highly appreciated by its viewers. In my opinion Seth MacFarlane should focus more on the latter and make it a great show for the following seasons, by neglecting Family Guy, which became dull in the past years. But his contract with FOX might now allow this?

What do you think? Please comment.

The reason why Jess Harnell replaced Seth as Tim the Bear in The Cleveland Show is because Seth wanted to do other projects. When you keep that in mind, this joke is even funnier.

Seth said himself he hasn't even been to the writers' room in about ten years. He's hinted that he wants Family Guy to just die already so he can move on. Whoever did the voice here is probably one of the producers poking fun at the fact that the creator isn't around anymore (besides the acting of course, which I assume he's contractually obligated to do).

Seth McFarlane doesn't get as much involved with FG anymore as he was with the first few seasons, I think this is more of just an in joke rather than a legit actual complaint.

Why is the joke so confusing to people?

To be fair, each season of the Orville gets better and better, and season 3 was SO GOOD! Helps with the visuals and length increased, as well as good story telling while incorporating elements from the past two seasons. Most of the episodes I was crying to as I really understood how much effort went into certain episodes of the season that made me really glad I stuck around and kept giving the show a chance. The Orville is not only a good parody show, it’s a good sci fi show in general. Really hope it gets renewed for a possible season 4.

Why do so many people here not seem to understand the joke: Seth normally does Peter’s voice but is being distracted by his work on the Orville, it’s that simple people

It's not Seth MacFarlane's voice saying, "Because it's preventing me from doing my work here at Family Guy, " lol that's this new thing everybody's doing called, "humor."

You know, a joke?!

I thought it was actually a very clever joke, not at all a statement of the overall standard of comedy or storytelling in recent Family Guy seasons.

Family Guy is about jokes.
The Orville is not.

The Orville is a story-driven enterprise, that just so happens to have the same creator and showrunners.

Of COURSE Family Guy is going to make jokes about it 😂

If you need your jokes to come with instructions lol that reflects on you, not the joke's source.

Uh this is pretty obviously a joke especially since

A. Seth MacFarlane doesn't really write for Family Guy anymore and

B. the production team isn't going to write a joke trashing the show Seth is working on since I'm sure they respect the guy too much. If the product doesn't turn out well they'll take a swing (thus why there was a Million Ways to die in the west sucks joke in "Petey IV") but Orville is doing decent in the ratings and well critically so this isn't that kind of joke.

This is really just a gag about "heh we know Seth is working more on the Orville so let's point out how that would make him less focused on Family Guy" but not in a vindicative way considering Seth obviously still spends hours voicing each episode of the show so not like that changed or anything. Really this is actually one of the less better jokes FG has done lately and is just meant to be a fun reference to Orville. Remember when the Simpsons did a joke about replacing voice actors in "Homer to the Max" with wrong sounding Ned Flanders? same sort of jab here albeit in a different context.

Technically, Seth is contractually obligated to remain involved with Family Guy as both a voice actor (on-assignment) and creative consultant.

Peter using a gun to causally destroy his television is an exact microcosm of why seth isn't working on the show anymore

If it were in Peter's real voice: Because it's preventing Seth from doing his work here at Family Guy.
