Leave the tree mulch free for about 4-5 inches. Its extremely bad for the tree. Won't hurt immediately but will in the long run.

You can buy these metal guards that go around the edge of things like this they are designed to keep the mulch in. Most of the time properties with mulch already installed have them

Trees are meant to be buried at a specific depth. Exposing the crown can cause it to die or get sick. It can also cause it to have lots of roots very close to the surface within that 5 ft radius around the tree. I'm not sure what kind of tree that is but I would suggest feeling that back in! Don't want to lose your tree!

The dark mulch you have now is the best choice, adds contrast to your yard.

Mulch looks fantastic but a white brick retaining circle would look fantastic and contrast the mulch so well

You could always use the leveling block’s around the trees and then use mulch to prevent getting any mulch in the yard

I have a brick edging ring around my fruit trees. I use 10 rounded bricks which form a perfect circle. Use a weed barrier before spreading mulch otherwise the grass will make its way back into the ring. Also I think the flowers you used are annual which means they probably die during the winter.

I use the plastic edge you can spike down.
Spikes inside the circle so you can easily edge the tree out. ❤

Use a plastic divider around the perimeter of the garden bed. Have it go about an inch and a half into the soil and about 4 1/2 inches above the surface. When you buy it from the hardware store, there will also be plastic pegs. You buy separately to hold it in place. Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Good luck, my friend.

I'd put a layer of cardboard down first to stop weeds coming up for quite sometime. Cut holes in the cardboard where you are planting your flowers so they have access to the soil below then heavily mulch keeping a gap between the trunk of the existing plants and the mulch.

Prep the soil before planting color as well as plant with a starter fertilizer. Also make sure mulch is 8 inches from the trunk of the tree.

You have a clay based soil, that doesn't drain warter or airate easily, would be worth mixing that mulch in too the soil 10 inches or so then your plants can grow, don't raise the bed it will dry out too quick, buy plants that will grow there, in shade when the trees fill out and plants which will survive the winter and re shoot next year, look for perennials or Hardy shrubs not anuals, hope this helps

Use non peat compost cheapest you can get, then add vermiculite. Plants grow perfectly.
Or use a cap of tomato feed in your water.
Top your trees so they get nice and bushy or they will just grow up and look like poles

Mulch around the base of the tree promotes crown rot. Also I would have dug the bed out deeper and filled up with nice top soil

There are many options. I use large rolls of plastic bender board. This will allow you to make it to the size you want. Cut it long and rivet the ends together with at least four rivets. Or there are cinderblocks that allow you to create a ring. Look at Pea gravel which could be better for the tree. This will help push the roots out .If you are going to make a putting green area start looking at hole cutters. This would also allow you to move good grass to dead areas🤙🏼💚Aloha. Could you place one hole that stays in one location as Lahaina, Maui CD

I would go all out and do concrete cobblestone lining

Why not use lower, smaller slabs to create a wall around in the inner part of the flower bedd ?

Do not raise up... Decorative stone pavers around tree and decorative pots for garden... have a different theme for each tree...a mini Japanese garden or English garden... a bench at one tree and a small bistro table and chairs at another and a large sitting rock at the last... and it's super easy to change...
