Scanning negatives on your phone is CRAZY😭

remember when you use to have to take your cameras to those little shops just to get the end result of pics, it was always exciting getting it back in those large yellow envelopes, it was like opening a birthday gift

"Best" way? No. Cheap way? Yes.

I am sorry, but this is the reason why people think bad quality = film 😢

c41 processing takes a lot longer then minutes, as well all the chemicals have to be a certain temperature, the film washed and dried in a clean environment.

Just take it to a lab, yea this WORKS but if you can afford a $300 dev kit, you can afford $15 for a scan at high DPI

I know people are hating on the video for them using their phone camera but it’s definitely a solid way to get the photos off quick if you don’t have much else gear or lab availability near you(or if you can’t afford the extra cost).

Some ways to improve the results using a phone would be to
-ensure you are shooting in macro mode
-block off the light on the sides of the negative using something flat(this will also help make the negative stay flat when taking the photo). You can use some books stacked. That are equal in size
-shoot in manual mode and put your on top of the books and leveled so that you are scanning as flat as possible. Set a short timer so u don’t have camera shake. By shooting in manual you can ensure you aren’t overexposing too much and get the sharpest image
-try to make sure the height the phone is at allows you to fill the framing with as much of the negative as possible(this will ensure you get the most detail)
-convert the negative to a positive using whatever external software/app you want. There are many free and cheap options that range in effectiveness. The main thing is to ensure your scan/picture of the negative is as detailed as you can get it.

I’ve done the above to quickly take a look at some of my negatives before scanning them using a cheap used flatbed scanner. The flatbed scanner takes a long time and is a pain to keep negatives flat in. The flatbed scanner gave me better results than what I can achieve with my phone but I have been able to make solid 5x7 prints using my phone as the film scanner before

Don’t let gear and costs hold you back from pursuing film shooting! It’s one of the most rewarding hobbies I’ve ever experienced!

Lol, would be much faster if you took the pic with your phone in the first place... quality wise it would be the same anyway😂😂😂

I am honestly interested can you tell me more about the app? Is it free? What’s the name? And does it actually work as well as you showed?😅

If you're going to use your phone to photograph the picture anyway. Just snap the original with that same phone

It's give me vibe of One Hour Photo with Robin Williams

Do the whole process right, then ruin the photo taking a picture of it with your phone. It’s not the apps fault, it’s the phone cameras fault. In a pinch it’s fine, but otherwise get it scanned properly. Take it somewhere or buy a flatbed scanner. This is like slow cooking some barbecue ribs then putting it in the fridge to microwave later on.

You're down grading you negative by millions , defeating the object.

To think of all the time you could have saved just using your cell phone in the first place.

What are the best settings to the camera. I just bought one for 30p at a car boot but I can’t understand the dials?

This is great for previewing images but it will not compete with a proper scan from a scanner or camera scanning setup. For any home developers who dont want to buy a scanner, look into camera scanning! Of course its only inexpensive if you have a digital camera already, but its a very easy and effecient way to scan images

This makes as much sense as demanding a manual shift car and then getting an ai robot to drive it
