Eduardo Mata - Dallas Symphony Orchestra 1982

A good performance by my hometown orchestra led by the late Eduardo Mata. I didn't see this recording on YouTube so I thought I would share this hidden gem.

One year, when I was really little, Disney released Fantasia on VHS. Grandpa got that video, and he and I watched it together, and the Bald Mountain portion was my favorite part. That was when gramps had a stroke of inspiration, and so we began our dark work. I watched, and re-watched, and watched some more, feverishly sketching out how Chernobog looked, and grandpa, being a master at a sewing machine, he stitched, and he sewed, because I was too young to know definitively how to work the machine to my will, and that was the year I WAS Chernobog for Halloween. He took a pair of black sweatpants, and a black sweatshirt. These served as the base of the costume. We sewed on a pair of fake arms to the sweatshirt which held a plastic skull trick or treat bucket, and the actual sleeves of the shirt had the wings attached so I could mimic the epic moment when Chernobog opens his wings at the start.

This was the perfect music that was in Disney's FANTASIA. The music went perfect with that part of the movie. You gotta love classical music. It takes us everywhere when you listen to it.

How can "just sound" make all of us feel so alive, and motivated to do the good things that must be done in the world today?

Now I've gone down the rabbit hole of death classical.

This piece is just beautiful. It represents hopelessness and hope simultaneously.

Mussorgskys' "Night on Bald Mountain" is a brilliant work of art; that "Ave Maria" followed it in "Fantasia" remains a masterstroke of art. And it is, and shall remain, the best part of "Fantasia" (in my humble opinion)!

Background music for a visit with the in-laws.

That's honestly one of the best performances of this piece I've ever heard and I've heard quite a few! Nothing sounds off tune, no part seems inexplicably rushed or started off cue, amazing pacing. The conductor did a masterful work here! Well done!

Hands down, my favorite Fantasia segment! LOVED it, even as a very little girl. Of course, my favorite scene in Disney'sSnow White has always been the queen transforming herself into the witchy old lady too! Both these scenes made my much older sister break into tears, heeheehee (or should that be cackle cackle cackle)~ Thanks for the great upload!

Back in my college days I was listening to this with headphones on and reading the book "Helter Skelter" about the Manson murders. My brother came to my bedroom and shook me to tell me a friend from Ohio was calling. I almost had a heart attack. This is definitely music that will scare you!

Chernabog is best Disney villain. He gave an unforgettable experience in only 10, maybe 11 minutes, while the other villains had their whole movie to do it. Also, just freaking look at him.
