True Comment. My Uncle is a Army CW5 retired. He was the 1st to be tapped for this rank, when I was in the Army, during Desert Storm. He was eventually forced to retire after serving our country since the 1st Tet offensive, in Vietnam to around 2015. He was awarded 2 Broken Wing Awards and numerous other medals for bravery. I’m just glad he lived thru it all to tell me the stories, as a Huey pilot and beyond and that he is my uncle.

My dad is in his 50s and finally met a CW-5 recently. He was like "holy shit man, I've never met one before!"

My grandfather was a CW5 when he was in the army. I can’t remember if he was drafted or enlisted but he went to Vietnam. Didn’t see much action since he was stationed in very southern portions of South Vietnam. He served from then on and was apart of the National Guard until about 2012.

Edit: he is still with us and is a happy 78 with a 51 year long marriage.

Kid: mom, why has dad not returned yet for 25 years after getting milk?
Mom: "army bro"

I did get actually get to meet a CWO5, I was alone working in my S6 shop, quietly reimagining a laptop when I heard a the door open. I was confused tho because I noticed the CWO5 had a walked in from a door I’d never see before in the office. When I asked if he needed an account he said “no thank private” instead he took a seat and began sharing all his deep knowledge understanding about life and army from his own personal experiences. It was such a nice conversation, but unfortunately after a couple of minutes he stood up and said “I must go now young private” just after he said that another SSG knocked and poke his head in asking why his account got locked. I told the SSG I’d be right with him but when I turned around to thank the CWO5 he was gone alone with the door he came from.

(I guess that’s why they call they CWO5 rank the black saber. Guy was a wise as Yoda and fucking disappeared like Mace Windu)

I’ve seen several CW5s during my career. I saw three in one day while training in Italy. The craziest thing is ever witnessed with them was seeing a Maj open a door for the CW5 and treat the guy like a rockstar.

My dad was a CW4 dual rated Master Aviator just before he retired he was offered CW5 but the Army wanted him to do a tour in Korea he declined stating "I've spent too much time away from my wife throughout my career " he could have been one of those unicorns!

That’s why my parents rule was as soon as I turn 18 they will buy alcohol for me if I want it because “If you can sign your life away you should at least be able to have a drink.”

I've seen as many Chiefs at morning PT as I've seen Leprechauns in my life 😂

In Singapore with National Service, young lads were complaining in the past that they could serve the country at age 18 but cannot watch nudity in above 21 movies.

The weird thing isn't that 18 year olds in the army can drink, it's that 18 year olds outside the army can't.

Lol my dad said one of the smartest things he did in the army was befriending the quartermaster for his company. The guy could get anything, so he had a virtual unlimited supply of beer, and my dad was more than happy to help him drink as much of it as possible.

I met a CW4 during Disaster Relief in the National Guard. He was saying that he can't get promoted because he was told the state has no slots for a CW5... not that they were all taken there were just NONE. He was specifically told he would have to go "big army" to get promoted.

I’m hoping we get mustaches expanded a bit more. Beard would be cool too but I can’t imagine it would be comfortable in the heat.

In the Navy it’s normally not even a talking point about underage drinking cause you spend more time outside the US than inside. Sometimes you have those COs that try to limit the alcohol over seas but it never works.

I’ve been in the army 14 month and saw my first and probably my only CW5 at an award ceremony after a 4 day competition. Pretty dope got to shake his hand

My wife’s dad is CW5. He still trains students to fly light attack helicopters at fort Rucker. He’s been in about every American engagement since Bosnia
