The U.S. has made a "substantial proposal" to Russia aimed at securing the release of WNBA star Brittney Griner and former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Wednesday. The U.S. has not said who it was willing to trade, but Russia has long sought the release of Viktor Bout. Caitlin Huey-Burns has more details.

Why is her name coming up first over our military service employee? Second! why for her when she committed a crime? Third! Why are democracts dealing with Russia in the first place, we give millions to billions to a country to fight Russia and then deal with them.
Take hat off and scratching my head 🗣️

The value isn’t worth the trade. Letting a extremely dangerous criminal out of custody because an entitled brat can’t follow another countries simple laws or provide value to America. Let her start to appreciate America for a few years in jail before we start to come to the negotiating table.

What about the Americans in jail for far less idiotic marijuana charges? She brought it to Russia knowing damn well how Russia works. She's entitled now, not stupid.

I like Russia just a much as the next guy but when your traveling international it's common sense to read up on laws especially those pertaining to drugs. Trading a well known arms dealer for someone like her who willingly broke laws is an unworthy trade to say the least.

Soooo are we really willing to let a terrible person (known as the Merchant of Death) free in order to bring back a WNBA star....really? Seems like a fair trade <insert sarcasm>

An arms dealer for a black lesbian basketball player, sure, why not. Everything else is so f'd up in this country right now. Makes perfect sense too me.

If she has a medical need for cannabis, why would you play in Russia where it is illegal. If she is a gay woman with a wife, why would you play in Russia where it is illegal? I know it is money, but she didn't have to play in Russia to make ends meet. She has made and could have continued to make more money than I will see in my lifetime not playing in a country that persecutes her and her medically needed drugs. This is a perfect example of, "f**k around and find out", if I've ever seen one. This women is not worth a second thought.

The one who has a problem with the National Anthem being played at games. I’m sure she’s singing it now.

Why should we bring her home? She violated the laws of Russia, thus, she will get her sentence there and return home after.
