Nice to see all the safety gear being used and proper precautions taken.

Hands high if you were expecting a dramatic electric arc ✋️

That black suit the guy is wearing is an arc flash protection suit used for working with powerful electric devices. It stops you from being turned into a potato chip

Air: "I don't conduct electricity."
High voltage: "You wanna bet on that?"

Very smooth break. Obviously at no-lload on the power transformer. f the transformer had been carrying an electrical
load, the arc during switch separation would roar loud and look like the arrival of judgement day.

One of those "I've made my peace with the Lord" moments

That style of disconnect is never meant to be opened under load. The arcing we saw here is actually from capacitive coupling through the open circuit breaker. Here, the breaker is just off screen to the right, and they look like SF6 gas breakers.

Hearing that transformer or whatever those lines go into whine down is not something I expected to hear but is now one of my favorite sounds

I saw this kind of task done at LSI Logic, the electrician was standing on a thick rubber mat, wore massive leather type coveralls. He turned the power off, replaced a transformer and then turned the power back on which created a 4 inch thick arc that had to be 6’ long with a huge crackle, we (ERT) were all stunned.

Sounded like pulling apart something held together by velcro 💀

That’s probably the most dangerous place anyone could be. I’m glad to see that they are trained professional professionals. I will also say that this is a very interesting video.

Years ago, touring my older brother's workplace, he pointed to a wall with thick black hoses. "Watch this." He threw a large switch and the hoses jumped. "What is in those hoses?" "Those are not hoses, they're cables, and electricity." 😮

Wierd... we usually open the SF6 ahead of it, then use the air switch as the isolation... Cool vid.. Thanks for sharing.
