The Making of Amy Rose

Amy Rose - The Lost Fangirl
The second character I reimagined in a current generation game look was Amy Rose. After pulling several references of early 80s and modern Japanese Teen girl fashion including some references to yesteryear and current gen Harajuku high fashion looks I could pinpoint a few key elements that I wanted to incorporate into her look. The classic look was all good but the color scheme at the time was a bit all over the place. In an attempt to control all the different colors mashed into her old school look I tried my best to balance color accents and use some reasonable patterns to try and give the look more real world authenticity. Whether you are into fashion or sonic characters or both hopefully there is something that you can appreciate from this practice piece character prop (yes prop she is not animated, I didn't have time for all that. I'll try to animate the next batch of these style characters if I get around to continuing on to a new project)
For the technical aspects, due to time constraints I did not animate her original mesh at all so what you see now is a maya quick rig un-mangled original post version which was been made to make her appear to stand upright now (She was originally sculpted static-posed being carried by Sonic in the original scene). I had to leave the skirt as is, no time to unmorph all that geometry. The original base model was sculpted starting from Zspheres in Zbrush. Later onto retopology in maya then finally textures done in Substance painter. All imported into the final scene in Unreal 5.0 Early Access (the video is a capture of the realtime level in Unreal 5.0). From start to finish her model took my about 8 days of work excluding the final polish groom hairs which I added days later for an additional 2 days of work. Considering the time constraints I gave myself to finally get new work out I am happy with this result as a stopping point. It was a fun exercise but of course as with any art project there are always tons of mistakes. Anyways thanks for taking a look and if you have not seen it already do check out the full project which features Sonic, "Murder" (Metal) Sonic, and Amy all in an intense action scene within a next gen rendition of Stardust Speedway Act III Bad Future.
