The Conservatorium Chamber Choir is a group of student singers selected by audition from the Conservatorium of Music and the University of Sydney main campus. The Choir has given many public concerts, toured widely and recorded for the Australian Broadcasting Commission. Conducted by Dr Neil McEwan AM, this eclectic program of various choral works and genres proposes different approaches and challenges for the choir – from the sublime 16th century motet of Whyte, with its plainchant utterances, to the English reminiscence and melodic contours of the Festival anthem for choir and organ, Lo the full, final sacrifice of Gerald Finzi through to the complex rhythmic and melodic textures of Jonathan Dove’s The Passing of the Year for eight-part choir and piano. A satisfying program of fine choral compositions.
