If you wonder why so much manufacturing has left the US and so much of what we buy in manufactured goods comes from China, India, Pakistan and other places, this video answers many questions. High quality goods made inexpensively and sold to us. There is a dilemma of course. You see workers in sandals, often no protective gear, etc., no OSHA which troubles me as I worry about the workers' welfare. I searched for a flatware company in the US and found only one, the Sherrill Company which makes a line of flatware called Liberty. I am sure that company has all the safeguards required by the government and sue happy lawyers. It is very good stuff, esp their Betsy Ross line. But please note that a single five-piece stainless steel setting of that line is $69.00 when on sale. Do you get the point? Affordable to many, I suppose, especially if you eat alone. I am sure that they have no choice but to charge that much and what they sell is high quality.
