60 years after Rita Moreno made history, Ariana DeBose did. Both deserved these awards so, so much!!!

Her performance is the highlight of the film. Actually, she swept the award season and won the Golden Globe Award, the SAG Award, the Critics Choice Award, the BAFTA Award and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Well deserved!

Fun fact: Ariana won 31 awards for playing Anita.

"Yo no soy Americana. Yo soy puertorriquena." A well deserved win for Ariana, Anita is such an iconic role, and she certainly did it justice, much like Rita Moreno before her. ❤️

"Your Anita paved the way for tons of Anita like me": I appreciated so much also these few seconds on Rita Moreno. Ariana devoted Rita the recognition she deserved.

From being a bullet in Hamilton to The Prom to West Side Story to winning tons of awards for her performance as Anita including an Oscar, look how far she has become 🙌🙌

3rd time 2 actors have won Oscars for playing the same character
Marlon Brando & Robert De Niro (Vito Corleone)
Heath Ledger & Joaquin Phoenix (The Joker)
Rita Moreno & Ariana DeBose (Anita)

One of THE BEST decision the Academy has ever made! The power of her performance, her memorability is insane, and her presence is irreplaceable! AND THAT OSCAR CLIP! Flipping phenomenal!

I was rooting for Kirsten Dunst, but Ariana DeBose is fantastic in West Side Story, she is a hurricane of emotions in both singing and dancing and dramatics

One of the most deserved acting wins for a long time. She absolutely crushed it. Every swish of her skirt and emotional nuances with Bernardo and Maria were incredible. Hollywood needs to treat her like the leading lady she deserves to be.

in my opinion West Side Story should have won one more award and not just one, but the award she won is one of the most deserved of the night, Ariana is one of the most talented and special of the new Version of West Side Story and that triumph proves it

The fact that Rita Moreno won in the same category as Ariana 60 years ago, and Ariana won for the same character!!!!

I’m so glad I saw West Side Story on my birthday, it may have won only one Oscar, but Ariana Dabose did an amazing job as Anita, and the fact that she and Rita Moreno (the original Anita) were both in the same film is just incredible

They should give to her another award, "Miss Congeniality", friendly and warm soul, very talented.

She earned that Oscar!
Also, when she goes to hug Jessie Buckley in 1:33 is so adorable!

Here’s the facts:

-Rita Moreno was the first Latina actress to win an Oscar for West Side Story (1961)

-Ariana DeBose is now the second Latina actress to win an Oscar for West Side Story (2021)

I love the full circle of the moment. I love that Rita Moreno was there in person to witness it! However, and it’s a BIG however, this is a pitiful achievement. The fact that it took 60 years for another Latina actress to win the Oscar is heartbreaking. You do not win Oscars for roles that are not there. Here’s hoping 🤞🏼 more roles are created for Latine women that are eventually recognized by the Academy.

Congrats for this beautiful win, Ariana DeBose. I am so excited to see you in future films. 1000% deserved win!
