Britain in Sierra Leone,
Britain in India,
Britain in Africa,
Britain in America.

It wasn't all angels and ambrosia, but we also did a lot of good for the world.

If you don't win the hearts of the locals you will never win the war. VIETNAM.

The problem with Western intervention is mission creep. Iraq was a short violent war with low casualties historically speaking. Afghanistan was even lower casualties. It was the nation building that made it a quagmire

The Gulf War was a successful intervention as well. Easily defeating the 4th strongest military in the world at the time and liberating Kuwait in only a month.

The second Iraq war was pretty successful as well, at least we toppled Saddam’s regime, executed him and replaced the government with a democratic one

As a Kurd imma say but had the US not backed out on us we probably could have actually had a successful case of intervention.

Why not do this?? Give one of the liberated country back to it's colonial master for 10 years... Record the standard of living and then give them independence again and after 10 years record the standard of living again... The results might shock some of you... Not excusing what atrocities that were committed but that was a different era... Are the countries liberated better off? I understand self rule is best for everyone but we've heard stories of dictators taking over and wrecking the place up to the point the damage done is irreversible...

Korea in 1950, Greneda 1983, Panama 1989, Kuwait 1991, Kosovo 1998, all these have had relatively positive outcomes and prevented bad people from spreading their power. People forget these because its easier to single out the failures

Western intervention saved South Korea. It enabled the liberation of East Timor in 1999. There was also the Gulf War in 1991. Western intervention also ended the war in Bosnia and Croatia and four years later, the war in Kosovo.

So was the case of "operation cactus" by the indian armed forces in maldives. Maldives was saved in 1988.

And the importance of this intervention was that A. the ruling government was willing and able to fight with intervention force and B. The UN got involved and it truly became an international operation. Much like the most peaceful time in Jerusalem's recent history was when it was a UN city.
