[4K] Tweetsie Railroad

The Tweetsie Railroad operates a narrow gauge steam tourist operation around a Wild West themed amusement park outside of Boone and Blowing Rock, NC. Named for the sound of the whistles echoing in the mountains, the Tweetsie Railroad has been a popular tourist destination as one of the country's oldest theme parks. Two 36" gauge steam engines are the star attractions of the railroad. The engines may be brightly painted in a Southern Crescent style paint scheme, but don't be fooled. With grades of 4% around the mountain, the engines really get a chance to work.

East Tennessee & Western North Carolina 4-6-0 12, aka "Tweetsie," was built by Baldwin in 1917 and operated for the ET&WNC until 1950. The 12 was the locomotive that the Tweetsie Railroad was built around, with the railroad and theme park built around operating the beloved local icon ever since 1957. The 12 is most frequently used for the fall season and special events.

White Pass & Yukon 2-8-2 190, aka "Yukon Queen," was built by Baldwin in 1943. Originally operated in Alaska, the Mikado has been operated at Tweetsie since 1960. The 190 is the typical power for the regular train throughout the summer season and the Ghost Train.

This video was shot during the railroad's annual "Railroad Heritage Weekend" in August 2021. The railroad operated the 190 on the regular train, while 12 led a mixed train special. A photographer special and doubleheader were run as part of the event. It is a must see event for fans of the Tweetsie Railroad.

Number 12’s bell sounds very similar to Roy O. Disney #4’s bell. Same thing with 190 sounding similar to Walter E. Disney’s bell.

I hope one day to visit the Tweetsie Railroad with both of these steam locomotives. On going. Such a beautiful steam railroad at a theme park in the state of North Carolina. Very cool. Quite so cool with East Tennessee & Western North Carolina #12 and White Pass & Yukon 190.

From what I can see and hear

Locomotive 12 is a 4-6-0 class and is wearing either a untuned lunkenheimer or a type of short 5 chime
