Tools That Don’t Suck- Eastwood Ultrasonic Cleaner

Показать описание
In one of our most recent Vlogs Steve took the carb off of the 1934 Ford "Beautiful", disassembled it, and cleaned it with the Eastwood Ultrasonic Cleaner. Today we are going to take two very dirty carburetors and test the Eastwood Ultrasonic Cleaner at the most extreme. The Holley carb was sitting outside and is full of rust and leaves. The Winfield was in an attic of a building with a leaking roof and is covered in oxidation. Both carbs are frozen and do not freely move. Hopefully after some time in the sonic cleaner both carbs will look better then when they went in!! We plan to do some more Sonic Cleaner testing in the future!

FYI you don't need another basket for small parts. Just use a glass jar or something with the solvent in it and set it in the ultrasonic basket. The vibration will conduct through the jar and clean the small parts.

I think the idea of the basket is that you don't have to stick your hands into the hot solvent. Just an observation. 😁

You mentioned that ultrasonic cleaner in the last episode and it’s working Mike I’m not knowing why your not using the basket to take the carbs out of the tank???? I don’t know how you guys made out without this piece of equipment before!!!! Let the cleaning

i use one, and just bought smaller strainer baskets to put the small stuff in the big basket. Lots of watchmaker cleaner baskets and stuff out there that work great for smaller carb parts

I've put small chrome pieces in our ultrasonic cleaner with good results. Every car guy should have one of these!

Tea balls work very well for small parts. They even have screw on lids and a hook and chain to hang them in the solution.

Also try LA's Totally Awesome cleaner available at the Dollar Store as an inexpensive alternative to the pricey cleaners. Both are alkaline cleaners.

Been using this system for years on motorcycle carbs.

Have done some ultrasonic cleaning experiments myself in the past. Two tips I can pass along are, 1) for oily, greasy, dirty parts you can save on buying cleaner solution by mixing Dawn detergent in your hot water. It does a great job. Also for small parts just put them in a cup (plastic or otherwise) fill the cup with your cleaning solution and then set the cup into the basket with the machine tub also full of liquid. Small parts will not be lost and the ultra is waves transfer nicely through the cup to provide the same action. For rusty parts you might try CLR or Evaporust as the solution in the tank. I’ll have to try that one myself but could work well.

I'm using kind of a tea infuser for the small parts. For cleaning solution just use distilled water + dish soap and a very little alcohol. On iron parts a bit citric acid is fine too!
I take apart stuff like carburetors, it just works better on the inner cavaties.

Sure beats the days of using the Gunk gallon can dip.

Ultrasonic cleaner is to this day one of best tools I've bought. One word of caution though: be very careful what kind of cleaning agent you're using for aluminium, brass, copper etc. Most of dedicated ultrasonic cleaner solutions are alkaline which will either tarnish or cavitate the surface. If you're not sure just use dish soap.

I used one for some ethanol destroyed snowmobile carbs. Took the varnish right off. Wish I had one when I was a mechanic.

That Oil Eater chemical is AMAZING. Cleans almost as well as Castrol Super Kleen or the like but doesn't damage anything. Only stuff I use in my parts washer.

Use some caution with soldered parts. Left in there long enough, the vibrations can weaken and disassemble the joint. Ask me how I know.

I think if you are cleaning a carb to use on your project you need to strip it to component parts first. This gives the cleaner the chance to clean out all the passage ways of dirt and rust. You can by the "tea strainer" containers for these small parts. It does look a good bit of kit and the dirty fluid is a sure sign of how good it cleans.

Mike use the basket 😂🤣 I hear antifreeze works pretty good it would be a good test on the nasty carb🧐

For smaller parts I use the spring loaded metal tea bags. They will fit most carb parts and have a fine mesh
