Falash Mura is the name given to the community of Ethiopians who practice the Jewish faith and claim the right to live in Israel. Every year, the city of Gondar hosts what is billed as the largest Passover celebration in the world. The Falash Mura community bakes and sews for days, preparing for the Jewish holiday. While thousands of other Falash Mura have been airlifted to Israel, for these devotees, the struggle to return to what they see as their spiritual homeland continues. Filmmaker Lior Sperandeo documents this Ethiopian "Jewish island" where people dream of immigrating to Israel.

As an Ethiopian muslim i'm loving this, the beauty of our country is the coexistance of the three abrahamic faiths.

Wonderful short film, as an Ethiopian born in the states I find that the best part of Ethiopia is the extreme diversity. At this late date, it's sad to see my people discriminate against our Jewish brothers and sisters. Ironically, the uniqueness of the Ethiopian Orthodox tradition, and indeed Ethiopian culture as a whole, owes a good deal to the contributions of the Ethiopian Jews. At one point, Ethiopia was home to large communities of all 3 major Abrahamic faiths before continued persecution forced the so-called "Falashas" out of a land that had given them a safe haven for several centuries. It is my hope that one day a stronger and more vibrant community of Beta Israel can exist in Ethiopia. Peace to our Jewish brothers and sisters in Gondar and Israel respectively.

It's amazing that these people still practice Judaism when they are so secluded from the rest of the Jewish people! Beautiful!

look at the smiling eye of these beautiful people!! my people! a people so proud and never new others with the color of their skin. Never acknowledge inferiority, welcome every one as a guest, looks poor but rich in their heart. I love you ! Habesha, Felasha, Kush give it any name Ethiopia. Come and see how people live like biblical time, how Hebrew names, culture and worship is preserved. Do you know Blood, Father, House, Sky, Sister are the same in Amharic and Hebrew. There is a lot the whole world can learn from Ethiopia. Go to Ethiopia and I bet you will hear people calling God more that 100 times in day.
