I have always been of the opinion: if you don't want opposing players to celebrate make sure they have nothing to celebrate. Otherwise it has always just come off as being petty because you got bested imo

So let me get this straight, in baseball it would be perfectly legal to throw a fastball directly at the batter because 10 years ago they insulted my eyebrows?

Baseball is certainly in a struggle against itself, especially when you factor in that there's a deep drive into left field by Nick Castellanos and that'll be a home run.

The "umpire unwritten rule" is just them ignoring the actual rules of the game and should have resulted in them being blacklisted from every league.

"The only retaliation was a pitcher mocking him after striking him out."

THAT is exactly how players should respond to other players showboating. You strike a showboating hitter out, then showboat at him back. Or you homer off a showboating pitcher, then showboat at him back.

I've always been on the side of 2 main things
1. Let the players have fun and celebrate
2. Score as much as possible no matter what as a comeback is never impossible

The Korean Ump's reaction to the batflip on the walk is everything.

respect to people who *don't* intentionally throw 90mph fastballs at someone's head

During a blow out I say swing for the fence. Stats pay the bills, being nice to the other team doesn't. Unwritten blow out rules are for little league not the majors.

I hate the whole “don’t try to win too much” thing.

In my view It’s disrespectful to your opponent to give anything less than maximum effort until the game ends. If the other team doesn’t think they can win and wants mercy they should forfeit the game.

The only reason the other team is still playing is because they’re hoping for a rally and in baseball you can feasibly score any number of runs and come back. It’s the job of the winning team to tack on as many insurance runs as possible, treating each at bat as though the game is tied.

it’s funny that the generations above the current one always call this generation sensitive but would literally throw baseballs at peoples skulls for showing emotion

"in my day after we scored we just shook hands and walked back to the half way line. Now these young lads are dancing and hugging and high fives and all sorts of shananigans."

From an English pro soccer player in 1990. After the world cup produces loads of iconic goal celebrations.

All sports go through this eventually.

Amir Garrett trying to fight an entire baseball team by himself is still the most baller shit I’ve ever seen

I always thought it was strange that pitchers cam jump around, fis pump and yell in triumph when striking someone out but the batters can't celebrate at all without the pitchers getting upset.

This is such an interesting inflection point for baseball and it’s notable how the MLB as an organization is trying to have it both ways, such as suspending Anderson but also using the suspendable offense as marketing. It’s so difficult to tell if this is a good move by the MLB for baseball or just a desperate move to get new fans but, either way it’s a welcome change to see fewer players targeted with baseballs moving at 95 mph.

Really, though, it’s channels like this and Jomboy that are helping baseball. Telling stories in compelling, accessible ways to people who otherwise wouldn’t look into them is hugely important. Baseball has a richer history than any other major American sport and it needs to find a way to embrace that history while also embracing the 21st century, and fast.

As someone who doesn't care that much about baseball, the way you showed the sport in this video was outstanding. All sixteen minutes of this were entertaining and very insightful. Well done sir!

a wise man in a different comment section once said, “this story is insane, luckily baseball doesn’t exist, so we’re good”

Edit: thanks for all the likes!!! :D

I've never seen people more in their feelings than baseball players "he celebrated too much, now I'm mad", "you stared 1 second more than what I perceive is allowed after a home run". These dudes would literally cry if they were in MMA or football.

Watching Tony LaRussa waddle to home plate from the dugout was my favorite part of this whole video.😭
