The most scary thing about wooden houses is that they can catch fire very quickly

The cotton you are referring to is insulation material. I had same thing happen to me.I made a hole in sheet rock in my attic. But the houses are not weak, they are built in a specific way, there are wood studs and drywall(Sheetrock) if you punch dryway it will break, but every 16 inches there is a wood stud. Life of avg house is more than 70 years .

Dude, that wasn't cotton, that was insulation. You shouldn't touch it, or breath it. Also, that attic wasn't floored, it was just holding the insulation and ceiling boards. If you want to use the attic as a room (why else would you walk on it?), you have to give it a floor, and seal off the insulation (usually made of fiberglass, which you def should not breath!), and also insulate the top walls of the attic, among other things, to make it habitable. Also, if you had really fallen through the ceiling, you would not have fallen 3 stories, you would have fallen 1 story to the floor, which can hold much more than a human dropped from the ceiling.

Dude ! Everyone Knows you should Always Step Only on the Rafter Beams in an Attic; Never step on the Insulation!

You didnt step on thin wood or cotton its insulation used to stablize your home temperature and if you saw there was a plank of wood you completely avoided. American homes are made from wood for various reason but mainly because its stronger than cement and cheaper. Cement is strong but not for natural disasters or for running plumbing and electricity which india doesnt have for common homes. One man could fix any wooden repair whereas a whole team is needed to repair concrete.

Perhaps it's my biased American perspective, but when visiting a new country, I suspect it's best to not punch the walls, or walk on parts of the house that do not have floors.

Hahaha the same thing happened with my father who came to visit us in USA.. He went to attic and then stepped on single roof with insulation material and the next moment he was swinging on roof of our garage.. but luckily, he got some shelf to climb on.. then we got him from garage.. tht time it was scary.. but now we used to laugh on tht..
