This song is spawning a sequel of comments, my 3rd one! Notice in this song that Kansas used an organ, which is not the norm for pop rock music, right? Well, around the same time, there was an English group called "UK" (who had John Wetton, who went on to front the 80s supergroup Asia), who used keyboards that emanated organ sounds in a number of their songs, like "Night After Night." The UK Live Album "Night After Night" is quite good if you like eclectic rock music, and the eventual group Asia is kinda like the answer to the 70s Kansas, both skirting around dark themes without totally going into the abyss, compared to some rock/heavy metal groups of this timeframe!
