A big part of the wealth of the West depends on the US maintaining its hegemony. This will not be given up easily.

A peaceful departure from hegemony will result in a world divided into two blocks. Five eyes, EU, Japan, Korea, Taiwan on one side. Rest of the world on the other. Japan, Korea, Taiwan leaving the US fold in due course.
