$50,000 SIMULATORS: Realism or Laptime? #f1 #simracing

At the ADAC sim racing expo in Germany, I tested the full spectrum of simulator rigs, but I couldn't help but notice two main themes. These companies either optimize their hardware for lap time in game, or for the feeling of realism.

As someone who personally uses sims for training for real life, I will always take realism over performance, but what are you guys looking for in a rig?

Realism, lap times gotta come from me

I use my sim as a simulator, I want it to be as close to real life as possible

I'm somewhere in the middle. I want to be competitive but I also want to be immersed. I used to race in VR but not having a high refresh rate really is what made me switch to triple screens. I do always love going back to vr from time to time though

Not me with a G27, a chair from Kmart and a modified shift knob.

Wouldn't feel as satisfying putting in a good lap without the realism

Realism 💯
People want to know or feel what real race car driver’s do.

Precision and comfort. Realism nice to have. I believe the primary function of the rig is to enable you the opportunity to grow in skill.

Realism bro those laps gotta be earned by my learning and adapting to the tracks and other things

Real. I know im not gonna have a fast fast lap time. So the realer the better.

I’d go with realism in the sense that I need to feel as much as possible.
Having learned to drift in a real car, I find drifting on a sim way more difficult because there’s very little mechanical communication.

My guy, that headset is fine. That's an HP Reverb G2 and I had one.

If your framerate is too low, it's not the headset. It's the machine powering it.

I used to get 120fps and at 90hz, there was NO lag.

I don't necessarily go for realism, but I want to have a similar feeling as when I drive irl. It's more about what emotions and reflexes are engaged.

I remember someone making a setup but instead of a game you control an RC car in real life and whenever the rc car jumps or hits a bump the setup also moves corresponding on the rc cars movements

I care about fun, that’s why an office chair on carpet and a Logitech g29 with a laptop works for me.

In a good enough sim doing the speed limit in a nice car is still a blast.

i'm going for laptime and comfort over realism tbh, for me at least the direct drive force feedback is enough and already gave enough information that i need to drive the car like how the bumps feels, throttle, clutch, oversteer and understeer etc. i don't wanna bouncing around while doing my laptimes over and over again while puking and getting headache, maybe there's people that like it which is fine but personally i don't like my sim rig moving

As someone who can’t properly brake in sims (prolly cause my springs are too strong for what I’m used to in my actual car) I prefer realism over lap times. If I’m gonna go into a wall let’s at least make it interesting
