What's interesting is that this show was two months before Southeastern was released, which was recorded in February 2013. So they were sitting on a gold mine and no one in the crowd, myself included, had any idea that this guy was about to release one of the best Americana albums of our time in just a few months.

Jason Isbell has renewed my faith in American songwriting. He is the best thing out there, and he is a performer in the truest sense!

I love seeing this kid exceed all expectations. I learned about him when he first started with the DBT, and I've always had a feeling he was gonna soar. Thank you Amanda for reaching into this man's soul and giving him a rock to cling to.

This was a true pleasure. I made an album of it (digital) for my collection.
As much as I enjoyed the horrible harmonies when Jason was a DBT, in his drunken stupor, going a new direction for Jason isbell was a good move.
I'll go ahead and say it. The Bob Dylan of this age, is Jason .
Different times, but inspirational.

I saw this show, I guess living in North Alabama is what makes his music hit so close to home.Keep on sending all those great tunes . You and the 400 unit are by far true artist singing and playing with heart and straight from the soul.

From the brief (9 month?) period when Jason was the only guitarist in the 400 Unit....between Browan Lollar and Sadler Vaden.

One of the best songwriters there has ever been.

I don't listen to much country, the only country artists I listen to regularly are Johnny Cash and Ryan Adams. But this guy has perked my interest! Very nice slide playing, well crafted songs, great dynamics!

I love all of Jason's work. Take a listen to the song 'Children of Children' from Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit's latest CD called 'Something More Than Free.' Absolutely breathtaking singing, songwriting and playing. Amazing talent here!

This guy consistently delivers both great studio records and live shows. Still amazed at how his voice can suit a full electric Drive-By sound, and then still sound so great in a stripped form with acoustic guitar and fiddle. This set up seems to offer a perfect blend of the two. His interview with Marc Maron lends a great insight into how far his personal journey has come from Drive-By, can't wait to hear what he comes out with in the coming years

A great American songwriter. I like how he pays homage to some other great American musicians with "Danko Manuel" and then lightens the mood with the Meters classic (also commonly played by the Grateful Dead), Hey Pocky Way.
