a jazz/rock/improvisory group who through their appearance in the steve mcqueen movie 'bullitt' 1968 had jazz & rock fans digging into archives looking for clues to just who they were! in fact the group had started in '67 as a duo of flutist julie iger & harriot carter guitar & vocals...iger from san francisco and carter from saulsalito... infact iger & larry vogt (later guitarist for the group) had laid down some music for a fred padula film in '65 'for two photographers' (he is best known for his climbing film (el capitan) but a film i've been unable to see so far (but is on dvd through padula's web site...) soon they were joined by nat johnson-bass & al pimental- drums both veterans of the local jazz scene....late '67 larry vogt had signed on playing acoustic guitar later electric....gigs seemed plentiful for the group now playing a heady mix of jazz/blues/folk/rock and lots of improvisations...dates at the 'lions share/runway five/hungry i/el matador/glide memorial church/straight theatre & the trident had them building quite a reputation (october 23rd saw them at the committee theatre along with thorinshield/tom&lee)...late '67 and carter leaves because of family commitments and its here that they get spotted by steve mcqueen at the trident and he asks them to appear and write some music for his new film about to go into production.....demo's were laid down but after they had filmed their part at the 'coffee cantata coffee bar' their music wasn't used in the final cut being replaced by session players who i'll list here : ron burgandy-flute/bud shank-reeds/ray brown-bass/howard roberts-guitar & larry bunker-drums and recorded 12/13/19 september '68 (the actual soundtrack album was re-recorded for general release on 6/7 december '68 and differs greatly from the film soundtrack...).....a shame their own music wasn't heard as since nada! not a thing from the band...a reputed single was released but has never been seen but their badly out of date web site had a demo track but has since been taken down (but of course you can now hear it here!)...carter would also from time to time rejoin the group and here the line-up is : julie iger/nat johnson/larry vogt...if you want the track played in the film 'song for cathy' get the c.d. from 2009 and put out by 'film score monthly label' which is now fetching high prices! by april '71the band folded and members scattering across the states and drummer pimental to the u.k....the photo is of the original five piece line-up...
