DF Direct Weekly is back with a 20th episode milestone - shot before the Steam Deck reveal. We will have a Deck-specific Direct a bit later in the week. In this video, we talk about the lamentable Resident Evil Village DRM situation, Skyward Sword HD on Switch and the 'stealth 120Hz support' in A Plague Tale: Innocence - which is actually a good old PC-style v-sync off, unlocked fps scenario. All this and much, much more.

Huge props to Rich for speaking out in such a straight forward manner on DRM matters and for phrasing it the way he did, without sugarcoating. I think whole situation is unacceptable, Alex raised concerns 2 months ago in his video and so did community and Capcom just didn't care. And only now they've reacted when the whole thing kinda blew up. It is depressing, i agree.

Underneath that deadpan expression, the child in Audi unleashes his magic with his editing.

Tom shocked that he was introduced first. I was too brother, DFs unsung hero.

Great to see Tom be a part of the weekly update from time to time. Would also be cool to see more videos with Tom as a guest on other DF videos or vice versa.

from reddit on trackmania: "After years of Sunrise being unplayable, so many years. you were forced to downgrade to Windows 7 to play it which is out of support now and modern systems have issues with drivers too!

Well, now you can play it on Windows 10, natively - just open the game and play - no VM or downgrading BS."

I love how podcasts are choosing to come out on Mondays. It’s the worst day of the week but the content is a fantastic offset

I'm so glad this 'DRM that hampers gameplay' issue is finally being talked about more openly, and hopefully this increases general awareness of the issue. I've been hearing about Denuvo slowing down games since at least AC Origins, and I don't doubt it's been an issue for longer than that.

That rising, triumphant music that kept getting louder and louder during Rich's little speech had me laughing pretty hard at first, but then it was getting just a little too loud.

15:00, background music was slightly inappropriate here, sorry Audi. I feel rich was making some great comments about a huge problem in the industry surrounding “drama journalism” and what makes Digital Foundry different and the editing really undermines it.

The reason these companies stick with DRM is because the DRM companies show their C-level execs scary slides that say "your last game was pirated X number of times! think of all those lost sales!" while the execs are too ignorant to realize that none of those people probably would have (or would have been able to) buy the game in the first place. I've sat in on one such meeting a long time ago, back when SafeDisc was popular, and it was disgusting the degree of emotional manipulation they try to use.
