As someone who is asked to make Baklava every year, twice a year at Christmas and Easter, I thank you. If only I had all the time back that I spent making traditional Baklava before I knew this existed. My holidays will be a little merrier this year!!

As a Turkish person I can say that this is a type of baklava that we make in Turkey however the pastry sheets are sprinkled with nuts first before being scrunched and placed in the pan. It is called Gazete baklava. Which literally means Newspaper baklava.

If it doesn't have nuts, honey, and butter INSIDE those crinkled up sheets of phyllo dough, it's just a phyllo pie, not any sort of baklava. With proper baklava, it's sort of a dessert pastichio or lasagna, with layers of nuts, honey, and butter built up to fill the pan. So I'd just crinkle up the nut mixture inside the crumpled up sheets of dough and do the rest. Try brown sugar and honey instead of white sugar. It wouldn't take much more time or effort to do it that way, with nuts inside the dough, and it'd be more like actual baklava.
