How would the '82 Japanese Red perform versus the new one in the vinyl super deluxe? Any thoughts?

Very interesting. I just listened on my secondary system. In the first sample I found 'C' a tad more dynamic with 'D' close. But, with the last sample I thought 'D' was stronger. On the others 'A' & 'B' just struck me as a bit 'tamer' with perhaps less information. Thank you again Patrick for taking the time to do this! 👍

Before knowing the results my thoughts were that A is certainly the original, B and C were both very good and similar to my ears, probably liked B slightly more though and sample D I didn't like at all, sounded too clinical to my ears. I probably like A the most because it has that warm original sound, pretty much impossible to find a clean copy though. I'd be happy with any of the first 3. Should've thrown in a sample from the 2022 AAA vinyl remaster for a definitive comparison.

I will speculate as to why the 1982 JPN red mono won: this album is a little mushy sounding w/o some sort of treble "enhancement, " and the '82 JPN red monos all have a treble boost. Had the title being tested been (for example) 'With The Beatles' the '82 JPN red mono would be TOO bright for most listeners, as that album is known already for its brightness.

Not surprising. I prefer the Japanese Red Wax monos for most/all Beatles available in that format. Thanks for sharing the results!

I voted for D and I’m shocked it’s the Japanese version. The first one I eliminated was A, the original ‘66 mono. B & C we’re very close. Go figure.
