What does a Hermit Thrush song Sound like?

Recluse, shy, drab small brown and white bird found lurking in the understories of far northern forests during summer months, the Hermit Thrush may not be the most colorful of birds but it's certainly one of the best singers. People are often left wondering what the Hermit Thrush sounds like.

June is the month for hearing this angelic tune. As the name Hermit suggests, these birds prefer to be hidden deep within the forest. Thanks to its not-so-striking coloration this little thrush can easily blend into its surroundings, making it difficult to locate the culprit with the ethereal voice. Without their ear-catching, mystical song, it's easy to not be aware of their presence. How sweet the honor it is to spot one in a tree singing.

Their song is described as sounding like, Oh holy, holy, ah purity, purity ehh, sweetly, sweetly. Between each phrase is a pause.

It can be so hard to describe what I feel inside of me when I listen to him and just birds in general. I am a pianist and composer and nature has captivated me in so many way where I get lost in the sounds I hear. Hearing the hermit thrush and other birds brings such a state of peace in me for a long time and nature will continue to leave a very intimate part in my life and music.

I've definitely heard this song while camping, but didn't know enough about birdsong to identify it.

I love the hermit thrush’s song! It seems timely that you post this now. I am from Nova Scotia, but am visiting a friend in Lewisporte, my first trip out of province since the pandemic began. Two nights ago he took me to one of his favorite remote lakes, a long bumpy ride in by 4x4 on a network of washed out, over grown logging roads. Just at sunset, while we were drifting on the lake in kayaks, a hermit thrush began singing, his song mingling with the equally unearthly sound of snipes winnowing over head. It was magical.
