Other reasons why Marius chose Cosette over Eponine because she was educated, pampered, classy, and loved.... similar to him. Not just because she was pretty. So he recognized a piece of himself in her. Growing up with nuns as teachers gave Cosette a lot of wisdom, intellect, and maturity...while still preserving her sweet, dreamy innocence. Eponine never had that chance and was pretty much doomed to life as a pauper. And that was part of her sadness as well, knowing she was stuck in an archetype she couldn't get out of, similar to Fantine.

This is what I'm talking about. In the book, she was evil and it was easy to root for Cosette since she's the nice and pretty choice. But here... it's so much more realistic and depressing. You could see from the comment section, alot of people can relate to her, and this is what happens when you HUMANIZE characters, whether they are the main protagonist or not. So props for the musicals.

I recently watched the Musical and I have no idea how it was for others but I loved Eponine sooo much more than Cosette. Because she WASNT perfect. She did everything for someone she loved, even if she knew he wouldn’t love her back. But she still gave it all for him.
That’s beauitful.
And she was so relatable for me even with such short time to develope she was amazing.
