There are obviously many ways to shoot sports with the A6500 but here are my personal best settings for shooting sports and action still images. This video does not delve into video, but is made only for shooting stills. I hope you find it useful! #sonyalpha #a6500 #sonya6500

It's always great to see a photographer sharing their settings. I think it would also be useful to add the Shooting Mode, the lens and your preferred aperture to this advice. It may also be useful to discuss how you keep your shutter speed high if you are not using the Auto ISO Minimum Shutter Speed option available to A6500 users.

Are these settings in the Manual mode? Or SCN mode?

Thanks!

Any suggestions for sport video settings both regular and for shooting sport in slow motion. Thanks!

Appreciated the picture setting tips, getting excellent results with Sony's 24-240 while shooting high school hockey games in a variety of arenas with different lighting conditions.

Why shoot in s-log while using RAW+JPEG? If you're going to post process anyway, I don't think the jpeg will have any more dynamic range than the RAW file, which isn't recorded with the gamma curve/flat color.

I shoot professional wrestling and whenever i try to focus with the back button it misses focus sometimes and I'll miss a great shot. Should i change the flexablie spot?

Would you be able to shoot In low light/cloudy weather with these settings as well? Where I am it’s frequently cloudy and have a hard time catching crisp action shots of my dogs working unless it’s on the SCN/sport mode, but I’m not able to customize any settings there if I wanted to adjust.

Nice video. I have a couple of questions as in some cases you provide recommendations, but you don't necessarily explain what the benefit of the setting is. You recommend turning AF w/ shutter and Pre-AF to Off and adding AF On to the AF/MF button. Not clear on the benefit of doing this as seems like in either case you are still pressing a button to get the AF On to function. What is the benefit of switching the function to the AF/MF button? Also, what does turning Pre-AF to Off help? I see you stated in a post below to also turn this off for someone doing gymnastics but did not necessarily explain why. As an novice, it would seem keeping this on would help keep the camera closer to the focus plan at all times even when you are getting ready to press the shutter button half way (or in your case the af/mf button). Can you explain why turning off the Pre-Aff to Off helps? Thanks

Hi Patrick, I bought this camera and it came with 2 basic kit lens- the 16-55mm and 55-210mm.

Do you have an idea of what settings work well with the 55-210mm for sports? It is for outdoors motorcycle sports racing. I have been practicing the sports settings in scene selection with this lens. It does an okay job for now until I can afford a much better lens.

Thank you very much. I would have add the following: Setup 5/7 - Copyright Info. It should be added no matter what you shoot, especially if you publish or sell.

Why touch pad set to Right half? Why nothing about shooting mode? Shutter priority? Thought many did use Auto ISO and Manual Mode to control aperture and shutter speed?

great video
Could you do a video version ? wonderng what would be best auto focus mode for sports like mountain biking.
I've tried wide but it creates a lot of motion blur

I'm using 85mm G master lens now with sony 6500. I found the auto focus on this lens is kind of weak. Do u think Sony 55mm Zeiss will perform better? Any suggestions? Thank you in advance. And thank you for this video

The AF area should be set to "lock on af expand flexible spot" and not wide....if you tell the camera what subject to lock on to it will perform better...

Sorry, but to the best of my knowledge the color space should only affect Jpeg files. This will only show incorrect colors on the back of your camera, and worse when you don't have a wide color gamut monitor.
