Wildfire rages out of control on Greek island of Rhodes

A large blaze burning on the Greek island of Rhodes for the fifth day has forced authorities to order an evacuation of four locations, including two seaside resorts.

In previous days, the wildfire was confined to the island’s mountainous center, but aided by winds, very high temperatures and dry conditions, it spread Saturday toward the coast on the island’s central-eastern side. Local media reported the fires had reached three hotels, whose clients had already been evacuated.

What is this supposed to mean? Wild fires NEVER rage in control

I was there over 35 yrs back, same thing. Temperature that summer was in the 40s; older Greeks, especially in Athens, were dying from heatstroke .

What a real shame for not only the holidaymakers but for the native people on the Greek island of Rhodes.

I always liked the Greek people.

I hope that they are able to get the wildfires under control, we have had some in Scotland this year as well.

Almost as if there's been some changes to the climate and weather was becoming weird and extreme... I wonder what it could be...? The news channels report the calamity but never speculate on the underlying cause. I wonder why not...?
