Benjamin Godard, Nocturne in F, op. 68

I have found Godard's nocturnes to be very evocative of the French impressionist style that developed later. Not that Godard was ahead of his time, but I can hear presentiments of Debussy and Faure in these pieces.

Each nocturne is quite different, except, maybe, for a certain dreamy quality; perhaps this is what qualifies them as "nocturnes" (although as a musical form, the nocturne is not a very strictly defined genre). This first one is pretty gentle; simple and direct, but not lacking in moments of emotional intensity. It's both sweet and satisfying. Please enjoy!
