Berg's film reveals a more vulnerable character who cycled in and out of addictions and channelled her emotions into her art. Singer Cat Power (a.k.a. Chan Marshall) does an uncanny job of recreating Joplin's voice in readings from her letters. But the dominant voice is Joplin's own, in extraordinary performances drawn from both classic and rare footage.

I love Janis Joplin, and I still have all my vinyl. I was at her last ever East Coast concert at the Yale Bowl in New Haven, CT. It began to rain, so she and the band had to get under a tarp. She said (and I remember this exactly): "Hey, don't bury me in Connecticut, man. I want to be buried in California". This was the August before she O.D.'ed in October. 1970 I think. Yes. A bunch of us had gone to the concert. Before the concert, we could see this tiny figure dressed in purple dancing around the stadium, holding a bottle of Southern Comfort...not much comfort for Little Girl Blue.

I just saw the documentary and it was great it was so sad at the end I cried she really wanted to try and prove something to her parents and she was so lonely and the heroin was her friend in a way and it killed her
Maybe if she got that letter from her lover the morning it arrived at the hotel she died in she might have read it and decided not take have that last hit

looking forward to this. heard the biopic with amy Adams is on hold, not sure she could pull it off. in my opinion she would have to do for Janis. what Daniel day Lewis did for Lincoln, and that would be far from easy.
