Billy. Just found your channel a week ago. I ran 410 for a year and then had a driver. George Suprick ran Clinton County. I bought my car off Judy Bates it had 7 races on it a Gaerte engine. I met her at Port Royal and had to have a car. Never raced in my life. It was a rush. I sucked because I had no experience but learned sprint car 101. I studied like a fool and really enjoyed working on the car. Spent a ton of money but it was an awesome experience. Fifteen years later. I'm starting to miss those cars. I found your channel and love it

I have seen exploded drop gears, He thought had blown a pinion, , pulled the back off and discovered shrapnel. Cleaned it out and fitted new gears and went out for the feature. Than had the whole thing overhauled. This on an open axle sedan diff.
In the 60s a friend made his own quick change from a V8 diff. Welded and filed by hand.60+ years that diff is still in use, , it had an appetite for gears but some new ones resolved that. A couple of the others bought new ones as well and no more broken gears

I'm in my first year of racing a sprintcar so videos like this are such a good source of information!
I'd love a video on what you guys recommend checking weekly, monthly etc with your maintenance schedule.
Thanks for the torque sheet too!

Watched lots of sprint car racing over the years but never have worked on one. Curious if you can get bearings of differing quality cheap vs more expensive? Noticed when you did close up of rear cover bearings for the one failed set china was stamped on it. Love the pennzoil barrel staple of a lot of peoples shops in NW PA.

Thanks Billy, great video. I'm from the UK... have a Winters mini stock quick change in my Baby Grand. Was wondering how to check it over during the off season so this is really useful. I'll check the pinion for wear using the inspection hole. Have never checked my backlash... so I don't have a reference point. What should I be looking for and if there's too much, is there a way to adjust, or does that point to too much wear? Appreciate it...

@15:20 I race dirt bikes and I have a torque sheet printed in a similar way for every nut and bolt that I would ever need to remove and replace during normal operation and maintenance. It's a time saver and using a torque wrench any time you can makes everything last longer and work better. Great video Billy!

Watching this video reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer had the "ASSMAN" license plate on his car! Seriously though, I never in my time had any problems with a Winters rear. Even after destroying cars, going end over end, extremely rough tracks, etc., I never chewed up a rear. My Cook cars used to have the remote aluminum fill bottle attached to the back of the cage with the hose running into the rear. It was handy. I enjoy your tech videos as much as the race ones. Brings back memories!

Excellent lesson for a fan especially using that very damaged rear as an example of the rigors of dirt racing. Are the 2 flat head flush mounted screws in the rear plate used to hold in the bearings? Are the bearings easy to press out?

Driving my buddies 602 in a 604 non wing class at Wilmont speedway Wisconsin and I was thinking about how to check the rear end car is pretty used up, so I was thinking about this rear end issue of mine lol, anyway thank you and do you sell rebuild kits?

When conditions at the track cause you to change your gears, I assume both are changed. But do the new gears you are putting in have a different teeth pattern? It doesn't seem like the gears themselves can be bigger in circumference because of the shaft positions.
