Variations in types of diets are strictly for adherence purposes. Calories dictate weight, macros dictate what you look like at that weight, and vitamins and minerals dictate what you feel like.

Yes! Your message of CICO is so clear, and important, because somehow everyone wants to believe CICO is not real. No one wants to admit they are just eating more calories than they burn. I eat breakfast the moment I get up (oatporridge with apple, berries and nuts), and the last meal just before going to bed (big fruitbowl with cornflakes, wheat germ and soy yoghurt). Eating just before bedtime has worked for me in the past 20 years, and I always maintain the same weight and bodyweight composition.

The reason so many people are concerned with the optimal way to lose weight and getting it right the first time is because they THINK they will only have to do it once. Get into the mindset that eating right and exercise are for life and you will realize that if you are curious about the effectiveness of one method over another, you can simply just try it and see what happens. There are numerous ways to be reasonably healthy, but if you want to have a low body fat percentage while being fit, you must control calorie intake and find a calorie intensive sport, hobby, or job - for life. If you are ok with being fit, but with some range of overweight, then continue your eating habits, but add resistance training and a lifelong sport or hobby. The only complicated part of this, and it is extremely complicated, is finding a way to manage and continue new habits for the rest of your life.

My guess as well is if they measured energy expenditure during sleep, the group that ate later would have had higher energy expenditure due to the thermic effect of food and digestion of said food which would have made up the difference anyway

The biggest problem with eating at night is the possibility of developing GERD. Fat wise it’s a non issue.

I’ve tried it all 😂😂😂, with zero difference
What works best for me ( mentally ) is maintenance calories with walking to put me in a deficit . 4 meals spread out with some junk food at night while watching tv 📺

I eat my biggest meal before bed, I like to go to sleep satiated. I stay very lean cause I control my calories.
