Delidding Intel's Chiplet CPU | Core i7 5775C Broadwell

Intel does have a CPU with multiple chips in a package just like AMD! It's the Intel Core i7 5775C, which has an on-package but off-die eDRAM for use as an L4 cache for the CPU and GPU cores. And in this video I will be delidding it to overclock it to 4.2GHz and benchmark it to see if its fast enough for a testbench!

Thanks for this video. I thought Broadwell was HEDT/Servers only until about a week ago, then saw my motherboard supported it. I ordered one right after to keep me going for a while longer without needing a full system re-do. I'll be happy with 4.0ghz to keep noise and power consumption down, but this will help should I decide to delid it. Much appreciated!

A 5775c @ 4.2ghz and a Maximus VII Gene was the combo I used to use for my htpc for quite a few years before my board started to act weird. Both the cpu and board still work but I got them in storage atm. Anyways, real good video.

Great vid man. Your under rated. Hopefully you get more hardware sent your way for reviews. Been following for a year or two I think. But in the mean time reviewing older hardware is really good especially with the way the market is right now where you can't get anything new regardless due to lack of supply.

Bought this gem in order to give my ~6 old rig a last breath and I love it. Cheaper than 4790k on aliexpress and requires much less power. Was looking for someome showing me the delid process, nice job. I'd like to see more about it, maybe a comparison or some precise tuning, keep it up!

really good video! channel is super underrated tbh, this kind of video quality and not even 1K views... feels wrong.
I'm thinking about upgrading my i5-4690K to a i7-5775C on my Z97 Asus Motherboard.. see how that goes

I've discovered this CPU recently and immediately bought one for my Z97 rig. I barely made it to run at 4, 2GHz with 1.45V and I was wondering whether delidding would help with stability, not just the thermals. Now I got the answer, thanks. :)

Still rocking 65W 4790S (delided with liquid metal applied) in my Asus z97-WS rig. Never got a chance to upgrade to 5775C for a decent price. So may be in the current wake of a global chip shortage that may be finally a not so bad idea - to get one from China for cheap, delid it and upgrade. Overclocking is not a priority though, as you may tell by looking at my current CPU - the main goal is to stay as quiet as possible: I am using Zalman FX100 as my semi-passive cooling solution, and 4790S is really getting hot in there. Wondering if 5775C at a stock settings (with liquid metal under IHS) will have a better thermal performance.

Thank you for your review, which revived that long abandoned idea of upgrading to this unique CPU=)

Got Mine 5775C right after the anandtech re-review 4-5 months ago for $100 at ebay. It runs at 4.1GHz 1.250V, it boots at 4.2GHz 1.250V and runs normal stuff and AIDA64 CPU benchmarks and CPU-Z bench, but fails at V-RAY 4.0 Bench at 30 seconds. You should overclock eDRAM to 2000MHz it will give you the best results in games at 2200MHz gives kinda the same results as at 1800MHz or even 1600MHz.

It is really a very fast CPU for gaming and was reasonably priced at $100 and even now 120-130 kinda sounds reasonable.

i have an i5 5675c (delid, liquid metal) in a h97 itx board, running games at 60 fps on my livingroom TV. GPU is a rx560 4gb
since 60 is max Hz, no need for more.

i have an i7 5775c in an Asus ROG Maximus VII Impact mini itx board (thats one hell of a board, a freak) will put in a gpu like rx580 8gb and run this setup as my main dailydriver for gaming on my Samsung Odesey somethin idk. 1440p 240Hz.
schould get me way more than 80+ up to 140 fps in some games, freesync2 will fix any stuttering.

these cpus will give me all i need till AM6 (2025)

the igp and cpu core are powerfl enough to play youtube 4k AV1 at 60Hz, no issus at all.
the main reason i run my i5 5675c in living room. Great for any mediacenter build
.

Did you cover a few small caps closest to the die? preventing oxidation damaged?

thanks for the video! it's quite hard to find information about this chip on the web so this is very appreciated. I also first learned about it (knew about it beforehand already but didn't know it was holding well against 10th gen intel chips) on that Anandtech post and I have been eyeing this chip since then for my Z97 system with 4690K. Would you say that this will be a worthy upgrade over a 4.5 GHz 4690K in 2021?

*I’m a Brazilian viewer and I can’t understand much, I’m looking to see if the i7 5775C is a better choice than an i7 4790K*

Thank You
