Have completed 20 dives with the D5 and as mentioned above the clarity of the screen underwater is excellent, the illumination is constant during dives, it does not keep going off as it did in the demo. All dives are logged automatically as soon as you get near your smartphone.
No complaints so far.

Couldn't be happier with my D5. I recently updated the firmware on it and got a whole bunch of new functionality. The brightness is fine. The video doesn't do it justice. I actually have it tuned down on lowest setting to save battery and it's still fine. Under water brightness stays constant and I have no problems whatsoever with it.

I currently have the Teric. It is amazing and I have zero complaints. Had the luxury of handling the D5. I couldn’t see the screen! From where i live in the states, the D5 and Teric are almost equal in price. Buy the Teric, hands down!

I have a d5 and was choosing between that and the Teric. This review doesn’t do the d5 screen justice, it looks amazing underwater! I don’t plan on tech diving anytime soon so the additional £400 for trimix didn’t really make sense.

I just bought a Teric yesterday and couldn't be happier with it so far. I haven't been diving with it yet though. I did look at the D5 before making my decision and after checking out the Teric in person it was a very easy decision. The Teric does everything! Plus it's a lot easier to see versus the D5. Mine was $1095 at a dive shop in FL which is about the same as buying it online. The D5 I looked at was $900. The Teric is well worth the extra $$!

I bought the Teric last year and I love it.

Hi Mark and Simply Scuba, i like yours videos but always the reviews are short in depth. You only touch the basic and waht the manual says.... I would apreciate if you go for an actual test of this products... Use it for a month or more and then shoot a review. This will really improve the quality of the review. Cheers!

The mainissue with the Suunto?

It will block your deco if you break the ceiling for too long. Shearwater will adjust.
Computer in error is an absolute no-go for a computer....

Good Comparison. Two missed points, Teric went with a Standard Watch Band Size, so you can actually buy 1000's of different bands, and at cheaper prices. Teric Alarm stinks, which I can not hear. Have to use another watch (OCi) for Pool and Snorkel Sessions.

Thanks for this review! I am in the market for a new dive computer as I now need reading glasses but not prescriptions. I just need a bigger and brighter display and this comparison shows me a clear winner.

Shearwood Teric v for me. I am visually impaired and the brightness was awesome over D5

I own Teric about 5 months now, high brightness makes it as a torch when night diving. Cons- compass needs to be calibrated often and alarm you can’t hear them. I wear scubapro 7.5mm semi dry and most of the time wouldn’t feel the vibration neither.

I bought the Teric and AI transmitter for it yesterday. Spent two hours I the pool playing with a bunch of new things. I love the Teric. I also had the opportunity to handle a D5 in person side by side with the Teric. Night and day difference between the two. The Teric is heavier and has a bigger screen and is 10 times brighter, but can easily dim the screen to High, Med, Low, dim and off. The Teric 4 button operation is stupid simple to use. Every screen has a little picture on the screen showing the operation of the button, so you never need to remember what button to push to activate your changes for instance. The price is so close I consider them being marketed to the same crowd. $$ shouldn't be a deciding factor at this level of computer. The biggest thing I noticed in the store was the screen was so dim on the D5. I'm sure underwater where it's meant to be used it would read fine, but for all the surface stuff you do like dive planning and basic watch functions, the Teric wins. I also tried using the menu on the D5 and it's not nearly as easy as the Teric. The D5 cannot display as much info as the Teric and I like info. Super happy with my Teric!! Happy Diving!!! Thanks Simply Scuba. I've only watched about 100 of your videos so far....

An interesting competitor would be the Garmin Mk1, but no Air integration :{
One tip for the Shearwater (I'm a lucky owner :) ) you can use any wireless phone charger (some are really flat), just put your dive computer on it like you would put your phone on it.

I looked at both of these and decided to go with the Garmin Descent.
If I’m gonna wear my dive computer every day, it might as well be a fitness watch also.
Only con is, no air integration, but that also means I won’t be tempted to buy expensive air emitters.
