2021 Toyota Innova Review - Behind the Wheel

More common than any other MPVs in the market, this is the 2021 Toyota Innova V and E. The entry-level E gets standard seating, and the V gets captains' chairs. Both, however, feature a 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine that makes the car pretty fun to drive. We're featuring two Innovas in this review to show you just how versatile the locally-manufactured platform really is.

I have 1, and what people who complains about the price don't see is, this vehicle is overbuilt. Things and parts na hindi nakikita ng mga mata unless you meticulously check it, sample nalang pag sinilip mo mga pang ilalim ng innova, lahat ng bushings, ball joints etc. eh ang lalaki, pang SUV/pick up ang size, the cross member and the chassis frame is very thick (alam mong tatagal ng sobrang tagal), yung cross joint nalang niya, kasing laki ng cross joint ng land cruiser, even the engine is overbuilt (you can check it on the web nalang if you want clarity), people tend to look only on the exterior and interior part of the car, pero try to check din yung mga parts na hindi niyo nakikita at first glance.

It may not have the best in class interior, technology, and features, but as a car that moves you from point A to point B reliably and efficiently without falling apart after 100k kilometers, nothing beats the innova in its class. Sure, there are some cars out there that are jam-packed with features with beautiful interiors, but I must say, you will truly appreciate those features if you are on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck.

Planning to get the V variant for my growing family.
My father has a V variant Innova and my 5 y.o daughter loves the space in the second row and of course those captain's chair that provides easy 3rd row access.
My 2 kids will surely love this. Hoping things would fall into plan so we can get one at least early next year.

I’m a fan of this car now. We used it as a taxi from Punjab to Delhi and I wasn’t tired for the first time. If they sell this in the uk I would buy it

Main selling point of the Innova is engine power. It is the most powerful MPV in the country. Displacement makes all the difference. It is essentially a tamed pick-up, tuning wise. 1.5 turbocharged engines can come close but not quite.

BUT I find Toyota pricing a bit steep for what they're offering. Of course some safety tech is important like numerous airbags, but those tech, you don't use everyday (or don't want to use for that matter as it equates to accidents). The tech used daily though are just lacking. 6.7" touchscreen? No backup camera for the mid-tier variant? At 1.4M, that should've been standard. The top-tier is what, 1.8M?

The "It's a Toyota" monicker will go old soon if they don't try to up their game. At those pricepoints, what will stop people from getting a Geely, a Tiggo, or a Maxus that offer state-of-the-art tech and similar safety features, plus ridiculous warranties? Or cheaper 7-seater options from other Japanese brands with more tech? Parts availability? It has come to a point now that all major Japanese, Korean, and even Chinese car brands have parts available everywhere, even at Shopee, believe it or not. It's not exclusive to Toyota anymore.

I am not a Toyota hater. My family's first car is an old Corona. My father is now driving an old Toyota. It is always a brand that's close to my heart. But looking at it objectively, they now need to take a look at their value proposition. Knowing Toyota, they probably would in the next couple of years. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

I bought a 2020 Innova E for our family car. Papa driving and me in the front with mama and CM in the middle, all very comfortable. And that leaves the spacious 3rd row if we bring along other family members. More spacious and more comfortable than the Rush or Avanza and with better performance for not that many more pesos and with legendary Toyota reliability and parts availability.

My 2020 G Variant is perfect, and practical sure the V has Captain Seats but its more practical to get the bench type 2nd row.

I own a 2018 E model, and agreed - it does get the job done. Granted, it’s sad that it doesn’t have cruise control, which would help in long drives, but hey, it gets us from point A to point B with all our luggage in tow. There really is no denying how capable the Innova is.
