Deep within Oklahoma’s northern plains lies a hidden treasure. The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve is the largest protected remnant of tallgrass prairie left on earth. The 39,000-acre prairie spreads across northern Oklahoma, southern Kansas and the southwestern corner of Missouri. The preserved prairie represents only about 10 percent of what originally spread from Texas to Minnesota, covering 14 states. Urban development and cropland destroyed the rest.
