Thanks for the review; we really love the The "recesses" are actually burning/fusing notches. Here is hos they work. 1) You snap the cord into the hole leaving about an inch sticking through 2) Next you burn the tip of the cord. 3) You then pull the cord out perpendicular to the Spool Tool. You can also add a little twist if you wish; you should have a nice finished end to your cord. Thanks for the input & thanks for keeping it real - Gino.

Thanks for the great review! I thought the tight retaining slots would be a deal breaker, but I saw someone suggest carefully running sandpaper or a nail file through them to widen them a bit. Problem solved, and I'm going to order one right now.

Where did you find a Mini White Bic lighter for this device? I can't find one anywhere. Great device indeed.

You can file the notches down according to another review, and the wrapping is important for bulk, also a kno/loop before you slide the paracord in helps pull it from the notch. While in the notch, you cut the loop, light the end, as it cools pull it out.

WhiskeyFox...the notches are designed to finish the cut ends of cord and the tighter the fit the cleaner the end. The nice thing about the holes if a user feels they are two tight they can put tension on the cord while working it into the notch and it will slide in easier or you can simply use a file to widen the hole.

I just ordered one and received it. The holder for the lighter has been remanufactured to hold a round lighter so mini Bic Lighters do not work. They fall right out and need to be held in with a rubber band. Very disappointing.

just run a file through the keeper slots and that will take care of the tightness concern. but be careful. you don't want it so that the cord falls loose.

Good Review.  Thank you, saved me some money.  To me this looks cool, but for the price this is kind of a waste of money for what it does. They say it holds a 100 feet that thing would be huge.

750lb paracord is 11 strands. 550 is 7 strand.
