Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Rebecca Bunch: Finding Power In 'Crazy' ❤️‍🩹 Explained

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rebecca Bunch’s story was about many things, but one of the most central was that idea from the title – the idea of being “crazy.” This is first just a more jokey part of her so-called “crazy ex-girlfriend” status, but over time she comes to confront and eventually adapt to deal with her very real mental health issues. “Crazy” as a descriptor has long been used to put down or discount people (especially women), and over the course of its run, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend worked to unpack this to give agency and humanity back to Rachel in a way she never thought possible. So let’s take a deeper look at how Rebecca reclaimed the idea of “crazy” and found ways to use it to empower herself.

CHAPTERS
00:00 Intro
01:00 Telling a deeper story with self-aware tropes
03:21 Showing how these stories affect us in real life
04:54 Being "crazy" in love
06:34 How her father affected all of her choices
07:55 Taking control of her own story

CXG is criminally underrated and I’m so glad the creators were able to get all the seasons they wanted from this wonderful show despite low ratings

I love that Rebecca finally choose HERSELF, and not one of her prospective love interests, showing that she needs to focus on herself and her own interests, before she opens up herself to love.

I really appreciated that they had Rebecca take accountability for her toxic behaviour, and had her officially get diagnosed with BPD. By contrast, the film adaptation of "Dear Evan Hansen" cut the song codemning Evan for HIS abhorrent actions, making it seem like he got off relatively scottfree for lying to a grieving family for weeks upon end.

I go feral every time The Take posts a video about Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. My favorite thing about the show is how it uses music to show how Rebecca’s relationship to romance is so engrained in our cultural media!

No other TV show has ever emotionally touched me the way CXG has. Great to see it's still being talked about, it's such a gem!

This absolute masterpiece of modern TV is so incredibly underrated, and I just don't understand why.

I feel like this show was made at the last moment it could have… if this had been direct to streaming they wouldve probably cancelled it quickly because it didnt have crazy viewership numbers… so im really glad rachel and aline fought for this show with the network and me and others get to enjoy it for many years❤

Still one of the best shows in the history of television. Between Rebecca and Paula ("I'll get the door, Mom, since you just had an abortion!"), it's about time we saw women's stories like this on TV.

I'm doing a re-watch with my roommates, who haven't seen it themselves. They find Rebecca a bit maddening, but I still love her

The same year I started watching this was the same year I got the official diagnosis of manic depression and it totally changed my view on the word “crazy”.
I think this show helped me develop a sense of self during a time that was so uncertain and uncomfortable.

That show was a revelation. Probably saved me from being an incel, but I think I was already starting to veer off that path.

It is always SO HARD to convince people to watch this show when they haven’t heard of it before (which they never have). Ever since it’s not even on Netflix anymore here in Austria, it’s basically impossible. I LOVE this show, it is probably my favorite series I have come across in my adult years and has helped me through my own healing journey in my 20s. I wish more people would watch this show and talk about it!

It was a really good show and I liked that with the exception of Rebecca Dad none of the characters were really bad they all had layers. I liked how all the main guys all had character development. While there was a part of me that wanted Nathaniel and Rebecca to end up together I do appreciate the open ending and the amount of character development Rebecca had

I don't usually comment on anything but this show has helped me so much. I was dealing with similar problems (the legal ones 😂) and this show helped me see me as more than just a crazy person. I cried and laughed and had a lot of epiphanies while watching this show.
I know it helped so many people! I'm just so grateful this show exists

I couldn't stomach this show at first, but then I tried it again a few years ago and have done at least one rewatch since then. Never have I seen a show that addressed mental health in the way this show did, and never have I been so invested in a protagonist's journey. Even just seeing clips from the last scene brings tears to my eyes. Thank you for doing a video on this underrated gem. ❤
