Vermont is one of 4 states that were former sovereign nations before statehood. The others being Texas, California and Hawaii. Vermont is known as the birthplace of the US Navy. It was the location of the most northern attack conducted by the Confederates during the Civil War. A band of Confederate raiders raided St. Alban's banks and attempted to burn the city to the ground. Their Greek fire failed to burn more than a barn down. They then fled to Canada burning two bridges along the way. They hoped that their pursuers would follow them into Canada triggering Britian to get involved in the Civil War. Instead, when reaching Canada, they were arrested, and the money which was in gold was returned.

Most of this was interesting until the maple syrup part. How can they say they are the biggest producer of maple syrup in states *and provinces* of North America while Quebec exists?

In 2022, Vermont produced 2.55 million gallons of Maple Syrup. This translates to ~28 million pounds. It does produce 50% of the US and three times as much as the second highest, but...

During the same time, Quebec produced 220 million pounds. Roughly 72% of the entire world's supply of Maple Syrup is produced in Quebec.
