We have spent the last 2 weeks SUV shopping, we have test driven everything from Chevy's up to BMW's, this past weekend among the SUV's we test drove were the Audi and the Volvo, I can honestly say, there is no competition, the Volvo is better in every regard than the Audi, in fact it's the first one I have gotten out of the test drive and told the wife "this is the one", it's a fantastic vehicle.

It's been a while since our last comparison, so we figured we'd put the all-new Audi Q5 up against the also all-new 2018 Volvo XC60! What do you guys think? I'm still torn, because these two are both absolutely stunning luxury crossovers...

Great comparison. I just bought a 2020 XC60 after a lot of comparison shopping, especially against the Q5. I’d say most of these comparisons still hold up with the current models. I know looks are highly subjective, but I much prefer the elegant front grill of the Volvo to the Audi. And the interior design of the Volvo is hands down better than the Audi in my opinion. I do love that Google Earth display on the Audi, but the Sensus is by far my favorite infotainment system. Thanks for the excellent head-to-head here. Makes me feel even better about my purchase. 🙂

Audi front better looking? You're kidding right? Fuel range? ...that slight difference is not worth a point to Audi. In that case give 2 points to Volvo for the much higher engine power. Another 2 points for the MUCH better looking Volvo rear end! Audi interiors are tops (I've had 4) but the tacked on central monitor looks like an after thought, and it's not touch screen, so the distracting knob and myriad of button controls. I do like that Audi maintained the redundant buttons for hvac and seat heat, etc. The recent Volvo's have performed much better than the Audi's in this class on the small front overlap test, and will continue to dominate here, so another 2 points.😉 The Volvo is made in Sweden, the Audi is made in Mexico. Volvo is a runaway winner here, extra points or not.

I appreciate your very concise side-by-side comparison between these two direct competitors. Other sites are comparing this luxury minded Volvo Inscription with a fully loaded QS5 with sport suspension, big V6 turbo, bigger wheels with flashy paint job. Not the fairest comparo.

I can’t thank you enough for this side by side comparison. I was literally torn between the two BUT here’s the 3 reasons why I DECIDED ON THE VOLVO ...
(1) Comfort/seats were better than Audi. (2) in Southern California, the VOLVO GETS YOU HOV LANE STATUS whereas Audi does NOT and that’s huge here (3) I’m second generation Swedish 🇸🇪 so ...

Well you failed to mention that, in Europe, the Volvo XC60 has been the official best-seller in the segment, and that it has outsold the Audi Q5 by quite some margin here for many years now.

I've owned both Volvos and Audis, and I'm squarely on the Audi side because of Volvo's horrendous reliability. We replaced tie rods and ball joints in my wife's Volvo at 20, 000 miles, and again at 32, 000 miles. The Volvo dealer tried to blame the roads. Nonsense - our other cars, driven in identical conditions, have always gone close to 100, 000 miles before needing suspension repairs.

Wonderful comparison video, thank you! One thing I'd like to add which I discovered while test driving them both is that the Volvo doesn't have a CD player anymore. I was told, however, one is available if you order your car through their overseas program. They put it in the center console. Audi on the other hand has tucked one up in their glove box. It would be a little hard to use but it's there in case you need one. I know they are considered outdated but some of us have a hard time letting them go. :-)

i have a 2018 audi q5 and have put about 2, 400 miles on it. I had Volvo's for 22 years and while i really liked them they tended to break down after a couple of years. The Audi is fun to drive and has all the features that i need.

I’m a VAG owner (only) since the mid 1970’s (new one every 2/3yrs). VAG quality is not what it used to be. Still good, but others have caught up. I’ve looked at both these to buy next. One thing you miss is that you can’t (at the moment) get a PHEV drivetrain for the Q5 - a huge plus for my next purchase.

I had a 1999 Audi A4 and a 1998 Volvo XC70. The Volvo is still in the driveway, drives me to work everyday, the Audi is in the junkyard. Just sayin.
