Best feature of this Studio is the display, all other components seem subpar or outdated. The price is waaay too steep.

Don’t need thunderbolt? As a consumer device no, but for professionals, as this is marketed to it should have tb3.

I run a graphics company that does large format printing and I had no issues with design and printing. Cant wait to get another one

sorry, but, the security guy behind you stole the show. :)

Even on a 1070 I'm surprised to see a lag with the guy was flicking between blending modes in Affinity. I have a 1080Ti and there's no lag or flicker when flicking through the blending modes.

I would love surface studio screen
So that we can use it with any pc

What a joke, the best part of the Studio is the screen, and you still cannot use it as an external display. So after the already outdated parts drift further into obsolescence, you have to toss the entire device. TB3 for external GPU or being able to use it as an external display would have prolonged the life and usefulness of the Studio, but no, this thing will just add on to the growing e-waste problem.

I love the design I'm happy Microsoft is now getting more "cool" looking products, they are really late but I'm glad they finally invested in a machine like this.

* Edit - I asked Microsoft chat again and they said both 32GB versions come with the 1070. I asked the first night it was announced so there was still some confusion on their side I'm guessing. Original comment below:

For those curious, the $3, 500 and $4, 300 models come with the 1060. Only the $4, 800 model has the 1070. So if you want the best performance you'll need to shell out for the max model.

Source: I spoke with a support rep at Microsoft to confirm these details. The pre-order site is really vague about which GPU comes with which model

The processor doesn't matter that much for a device like this? W... T... F? Yes it does. For the target audience and cost it should include the latest cpus as the 9th Gen Intel cpus are around the corner. Major fail from Microsoft on this.

You’re telling me that the cpu and gpu is from 2 years ago?

Like the machine. When can we get a surface monitor?

was really hoping for 6 -10 core option for music software that is touch pen enabled, 4 cores will not cut it.
everything else is superb though,
although thunderbolt is the new audio interface standard with no differ nce between 1 2 or 3 for audio

is this computer good for rendering blender animations?

Could I use this as an external monitor with pen and touch input with my PC workstation that is vastly more powerful than what the Surface Studio ships with? It's a shame that the previous generation model could not be used as an external monitor with touch and pen input and hope you can connect an existing laptop or PC to it with USB C and use it as an external monitor.

I don’t even know what thunderbolt is haha. What devices use it and is it really needed?

i think the biggest market for this will be design industry and i dont think processor is secondary for that sector. They should have gone with a desktop variant. Even desktop i5 would have been leaps ahead of the i7 in single thread performance

Has the pen performance improved at all? Real digital drawers didn't like it before..
