Guide Tenzi Sherpa is raising awareness about how much garbage people leave behind on Mount Everest. ‘The dirtiest camp [I] have ever seen,’ Tenzi wrote in an Instagram post, while sharing a video. He estimates he's removed approx 440 lbs of garbage at one camp station alone.

Climbers are required to bring down their garbage from the mountain, but it's apparently hard to enforce.

They should require a complete inventory of every person as they go up and charge them thousands of dollars per ounce if they leave anything on the trail. And they should pay people to carry extra trash down too.

Why? Why do humans insist on destroying our beautiful planet? I pick up litter where ever I go. This makes me so sad.

No excuses for that 👎. Only one animal destroys their own habitat

They should shut it down for a couple years.

It is better to stay at home instead Climbing a great peek and destroy its beauty😥

Every single person who left something there should be ashamed of themselves. Cause we all are

Trash strewn from the top of Mount Everest to the bottom of the Mariana Trench. I’d like to leave a better legacy behind

I guess we shouldn’t really be surprised, just look at the way space is now full of trash floating around in it.

Shut down climbs until trash is picked up. No camping . No tents. No climb.

It should be required that you are responsible for what you take up! That you have to put as much care, and planning, into getting it back down as you put into getting it up there in the first place!!!

This doesn't include the dead bodies. I think they do a clean up periodically but in some cases it's a matter of abandoning some equipment or become a dead body yourself. It's as much as getting yourself to a lower altitude (more oxygen) with only your essential equipment.

I don't understand what's so hard about don't leave anything behind whatever you brought there make sure you take it out with you people that are capable of this do not belong in the planet with the rest of us

How very, very sad. The shame that should be felt 😢. All to prove they are so brave. Ignorant at best.

Shameful! I've been blessed enough to have been there and climbed this majestic peak should be fined and be responsible for the cleanup of this mountain

Gonna be some but sore people when they say no more accents because they aren't adult enough to pickup after themselves.

This isn’t all “trash.” A great deal of the scattered debris is because this high campsite was hit by an avalanche, destroying the existing tents and supplies. This isn’t just wanton littering. The question is now, how to remove the destroyed camp ? It’s much harder to remove trash/debris from higher camps without getting “tourists” to help. I think every “paying climber” (not Sherpas) need to be responsible for bringing back at least 75% of their climb team’s supplies or they must be billed for its removal.

One of the most appalling things I've ever seen. I can't believe it

People should really feel some shame and clean up after themselves.
