Post-Apocalyptic Writing Advice

I discuss some post apocalyptic writing advice and what I feel is important when planning a novel within this genre. Hopefully these writing tips will help you in your journey in creating a fictional apocalypse, whether you choose to include zombies, mutants, radiation, or a dystopia. The world building is yours to change and go crazy with!

I'm making a post apocalyptic world where the main character is a guide for the dead, guiding them to the afterlife. the whole world is dying and there is no saving it. The guide helps the souls to death or the gate of the afterlife, helping them accept that the world has ended and there is no saving it. It's cold, silent, and even beautiful, no war, no life, no suffering.

I have no experience in writing a book, but my wish is I can write one some day, it would be with my own drawings because I am very good at draw . Ofcourse it would be post apocalyptic world with zombies but also mutated animals . the book would have unique characters, a dad main character where he is searching for his daughter and wife in this crazy world, but it will not be that easy to find them, it will take years, happy ending, or maybe not . where the main character must train, learn new things on how to make bikes, crazy cars, everything he can find, parts that has been left of military, police stations . the book would be so different that people would not even call that a book 🙂 . but I hope one day I can make that happen, I have story in my head, but ofcourse changes will be made trough time .

Thank you so much for this advice. I’m currently a freshman in high school and this has actually helped. I watched the walking dead and I was amazed by it’s realism and how it depicted what an actual zombie apocalypse would look like. My story is called “The Brink” and it’s takes place in 1918 right after WW1. I’m trying to make this as realistic as possible and depict an actual zombie apocalypse. Thanks again for this video man, it really helped.

Thanks for the advice, I’m currently writing a post post post apocalyptic novella series called Mysteriarch Mythos with elements of cosmic horror/supernatural horror and dark sci-fi-fantasy.
I’m writing book 1 of the series and in the world it’s takes place on already had two apocalypses happen.
At the start of the story a third. Apocalypse is happening.

I always hated books, then something inside of me changed. I am going to attempt at writing a book that starts off in a natural disaster then a zombie apocalypse, with smart characters Idk why people dumb there characters down its so off putting to me but as they advance through they're on a mission to re populate the human race starting with 5 to building a home base to eventually running out of bullets to learning how to fight in the art of the Roman legion it's going to be epic, full of suspense mystery love wits hate heartbreak and anger. This video helped me get a more understanding of how the writing structure goes thanks sir great video! And its the journey to civilisation is the epic tale im going to write for you.

I'm writing a post apocalyptic book where a magical curse from the medieval times comes back in modern times, plummeting society into the ground.

I'm currently writing a "post apocalyptic" revenge story. For volume 1 of my 1st comic book.

I was happy with my world. But, I made a city for the characters to go in for one chapter. And i'm not sure if I should cut it out of the story or not.

This helps me a bit so I'more sure of what I'm doing, I'm currently writing a realistic book, the disease is from mad cow mutanting and all the zombies can run really fast, they're capable of learning as well, so in the future they learn to open doors, climb up stuff and jump.

I'm writing one about a couple four years after the apacolypse happened. They were just about out of high school when it all happened. They have a four year old child with them also. I've been a fan of that show since it started so I've been trying to make a book with a similar zombie spread since. 😂
