I work as an EMT... had a call for an intoxicated patient four years ago.... guy was singing this at the TOP OF HIS LUNGS in the back of my ambulance. Made for a very interesting trip to the hospital... we still pick this patient up on occasion and he is now known as "Henry VIII" among the staff and yes, he did the spelling out Henry also, slamming his foot on the stretcher for each letter....until we had to yell at him to stop doing that.

This is my favorite song by them. You can hear their British accent.

Such a completely goofy song, and they know it, and are having tremendous fun singing it for everyone. I've watched this dozens of times and I still smile every time.

It’s 2023 and I’m crushing hard on 19 year old Peter. I’ve rewatched this an unhealthy amount of times.

As a 4-year-old, I went around the house singing, "I'm Henery the ape I am...Henery the ape I am I am!" Needless to say it cracked my family up. And I suppose it is linked to some of my earliest memories as a child. I was born on the 4th of May, so it probably was in heavy rotation on the radio that summer of '65. Music sure can be part of one's most distant memories. This song wouldn't likely have had the staying power of a Beatles' song, so I can link it to being 4 years old.

After his show I talked to Pete last night...the consumate entertainer. He smiled, shook my hand twice, and I told him what a blessing to the world he's been and continues to be. I had to repeat it three times. He leaned in and told me he was deaf. Then I said I LOVE YOU. It just popped out...I wasn't expecting it!!
I'm so grateful for that experience. 😊

Although probably their silliest song, their contribution to the British Invasion in the mid-60s cannot be denied as they had an amazing string of Top 40 singles, including nine Top 10 singles in a row. This was the fifth in that string and their second #1 single.

Quite an excellent performance of a goofy song . A real workout for the drummer and a very impressive guitar break .
A lot of energy in that short performance !!

I would have totally had the crush on the guy with the glasses that played the guitar solo. He looked like he had a quiet intelligence and fun manner about him.

I honestly love this song. It's a "simple" pop rock song that sounds great and can get people dancing and singing along. Kudos to Herman's Hermits.

Before I die, I'm going to edit this song into a 24 minute loop. Then play it at my funeral.

I was at a teen idol tour and Peter was in the tour with Mickey Dolenz and Bobby Sherman, this was back in 2000 in Wisconsin, and he sang this song and being funny. Peter put on a great show.

My dad likes to say “second verse, same as the first” as often as he can, and of course I picked that up from him. Now I get this song stuck in my head for days at a time and it always reminds me of him ♥️

Imagine having every woman in the world love you, and all you have to do is wear a suit and sing a children's nursery rhyme 3 times in a row.

I went to Windsor Castle on vacation where Henry VIII is given a grave tribute - had the song stuck in my head - and the gent behind me started humming it
