I live in Chester and it’s interesting to see other people’s views on it, as I sometimes forget to appreciate it.

My girlfriends family is from here and we visited last Christmas and will do so again. I actually plan to propose to her by the clock this next month. As a Mexican-American this town is beautiful and full of history, I love just walking around and capturing all the sights of the city.

Born and raised in Chester, I'm super happy you came to visit here! Honestly, Chester is very underrated and its history is beyond interesting. It's also very convenient with it being a small city. Much love xox

This made me so homesick. From my classroom when I was 12 (and again at 14) I could see the dentists building, not sure if it was a dentist then - 52 years ago, and the inscription 'the fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, ' is burnt into my brain from the hours I spent staring out of the window watching the tourists. From the next classroom I was in, from age 13 and then again from 15-16, we looked out over where they were working in the amphitheatre. It's amazing I ever learned anything. We used to do our cross country run past St John's church and in and around Grosvenor Park. I remember There used to be lots of swans on the river so we always took bread to feed them and I remember a brass band playing in the bandstand in the Groves. The city has changed a lot since then. Thank you for taking me back.

Isn't it amazing how different York and Chester are....both started as Roman Legionary fortresses, both developed as Viking ports on rivers connecting to the sea, and both retaining their city walls. They should be identical, but they are nothing alike.

For such a small country we have some amazing little gems and so much history.

I’ve been visiting Chester ever since I can remember. As a young person I lived a short drive away, and even when I lived further off, I often visited relatives who lived nearby. Now I live fairly close and visit it just for a ‘day out’. There’s so much history there, it’s a real experience. The ‘rows’ (that’s what they call the two tiers of shops) are great in wet weather - you can wander round the shops & not get wet. Glad you liked it. If you get the chance, visit the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich, London. It’s a spectacular place. It was built in 1696. I used to work there sometimes & took some American visitors round on one occasion - they asked when it was built & I told them. Their leader turned to the others in the party and said - “this was built before we were a country!” We in the UK forget our history sometimes. There’s a castle in walking distance from where I live that was built in 1295. It’s still someone’s home, which is pretty amazing when you think about it. The local church was built in 1163. We’re surrounded by ancient history!

I've been looking forward to this! I live in Salford (Greater Manchester) but I used to work in Chester around 2010. I grew up in New Zealand, where only a tiny handful of the very oldest buildings are even 180 years old. Chester blew me away with how much of it's epic history was visible even now.

I'm thrilled you liked Chester so much. It's the hidden gem of England, and the gateway to North Wales. I used to be the area sales manager for the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo, a newspaper distribution office in City road Chester. This is why I recommended you visit Chester. I moved to America in 1983, to marry my pen friend. It was wonderful to see Chester once more. I only wished you had toured the cathedral. Great show. 🤗

Chester is beautiful. I was lucky enough to be a parent helper on my son's school trip to Chester. They did the Roman formations in the gardens and marched through the city!

Chester is my favourite place in the UK. We visit at least once a year, usually tagging it on to a trip to Wales too. I'm so glad you guys visited, for me it's a must for any tourist visiting the North West of the UK 👍🏻

Chester, where my Dad’s family came from, happy memories of many childhood visits. Glad you good folk appreciated how uniquely lovely it is, not many US visitors put it on their itinerary.
My memorable school trip was to Normandy near Omaha Beach in 1966, 22 years after D-Day, and there were still fortifications to see, shellholes, etc, brought our history lessons into focus a little!

Glad you enjoyed Chester. A nice little city that’s worth visiting. My favourite trips were the history ones. We went to the battlefields in France/Belgium. In the UK we went to York, the Roman Baths in Bath, Fishbourne Roman Villa, Caerleon Roman Fortress, Rochester Castle & Cathedral, Blist Hill and ironbidge. As well as a few Victorian and war evacuee type trips where you dressed up and had to pretend you were evacuated from your family or in a Victorian school.

I'm from Massachusetts and our 8th grade school trip was a visit to Boston to walk The Freedom Trail. It took us to Paul Revere's house, Boston Harbor, Faneuil Hall, the graveyard where so many involved in getting the Revolution started are buried. We had read Johnny Tremain which is a story about a fictional boy who was a silversmith apprentice and watches the whole thing get planned and eventually gets involved himself. And seeing all of those places in the book and knowing that they're real and a big part of history was really awesome. I was that nerdy girl on the trip thoroughly engrossed and in awe of it all. Loved every moment.

Chester is one of my favourite places in the UK, and is the most incredible at Christmas. They have lights up everywhere, decorations, and also huge barrels up the center of the cobblestone streets with fires in them. I love it! It's on my bucket list as a place to go back to.

I have visited Chester on numerous occasions I have walked round the city, visited the military museum, visited the outlet and the zoo. In December I drove to Chester from Telford where I was staying to visit the Christmas market which is bigger than Telford’s Christmas market but smaller than Lincoln’s Christmas market which is one of the biggest in Britain.
