Meir seems to be using variations of the same methods that many mystics have used in many faiths of purposely doing or saying something controversial in order to force people to think more deeply and ask more questions. Is this a real Torah scroll? If so, why might that bother us? Is it wrong to use the Torah in a comedy sketch, or does this comedy sketch make us care more about the Torah? And finally- and I would argue most importantly- are we reading it enough to justify criticizing someone for their treatment of a Torah scroll? When Ibn Arabi said "I walk on that which you worship", people assumed he was blaspheming- until they learned that he kept money hidden in his shoes.

I'm going to give these guys the benefit of the doubt that they had the common sense, decency and respect not to use a real Torah scroll for a comedy skit! (regardless of their basic intentions.)

If I'm (hopefully) correct, then I strongly suggest they add a disclaimer to this clip, notifying viewers that the Torah used here is not genuine, and that it was not filmed in an authentic Shul.

p.s. If it was a real Torah, then the people involved are ignorant buffoons, no matter how religiously they are dressed!
Furthermore, I would then really like to speak to that young boy in the clip, and explain to him that the adults had a misguided lapse of judgement. What a terrible example they set for this child!
